I'm able to watch all of my Internet-based television including Netflix, HBO go, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and literally thousands more channels. The Apps for android and iPhone come in handy too because they function as a controller among other features like allowing you to add channels to your Roku account. I like to diversify my electronics. I own an Amazon Fire stick that is currently on loan/give to a family member, ps3, xbox1, xfinity x1, and Vizio Smart TV. I mention this to explain why I purchased the Roku. The Vizio TV has spotty connection to Wi-Fi at best, I'm not wasting time running Ethernet to it, and I'd rather use it as part of a great dual monitor setup than a mediocre smart TV (and the hulu app just stopped working flat out). I made no change to my equipment but Roku updated itself and either self-destructed or eliminated support for my TV.
