1080p, 2K or 4K?
1080p is enough to show what happened but often not enough to read a plate two lanes over at night. 2K (1440p) with a good sensor is the sweet spot, which is why the VIOFO, 70mai and IIWEY record there. 4K helps most in daylight at distance, and only if it is native; the ROVE upscales and the REDTIGER drops to 2.5K with three channels running. A Sony STARVIS sensor and a bright F1.5 to F1.8 lens do more for night footage than the resolution number, so weigh those first. Higher resolution also fills the card faster: budget roughly 10 GB an hour for a 4K front plus a 1080p rear.
Parking mode, hardwire kits and microSD cards
Every camera here loops while driving on the included USB power cable. Heat kills dash cams. A dashboard in a parked car in Arizona or Florida can pass 150 F, which swells lithium batteries. Do I need a hardwire kit or can I use the cigarette lighter?
