EDT, EDP, parfum or extrait?
The label describes how much fragrance oil is dissolved in the alcohol. Eau de toilette (EDT) is roughly 5 to 15 percent and usually lasts three to five hours, which is why our men’s cologne gift guide picks are lovely and short. Eau de parfum (EDP) is about 15 to 20 percent and is the sweet spot for a full workday. Parfum, extrait de parfum and “elixir” run 20 percent and up; they last longest, sit closer to the skin, and need one or two sprays instead of four. “Intense” is a marketing word, not a legal concentration, but it almost always means a heavier base, as with the Acqua di Gio pick here. Within the same concentration, the notes matter more than the label: a vanilla-amber EDP will outlast a citrus parfum.
Why the same bottle lasts 4 hours on you and 12 on your friend
Fragrance evaporates faster from dry skin, in heat and in wind, and slower from moisturized skin in cool, still air. That is most of the difference between reviews. Three things help. Spray on skin that has been moisturized with an unscented lotion, on pulse points (wrists, neck, inner elbows) and once on your clothes, which hold scent longer than skin. Do not rub your wrists together; it crushes the top notes. And store the bottle in its box in a drawer, not on a sunny bathroom shelf; heat and light break a perfume down within a year or two, and a degraded bottle loses its top notes and its staying power.
Which pick lasts the longest?
On stated concentration, the Azzaro parfum. On owner reports, Khamrah is the one most often described as lasting into the next day. Both are sweet, so pick by scent first.
Does perfume ship with Prime two-day delivery?
Fragrance is flammable and ships by ground inside the contiguous US, so allow a few extra days. Listings often exclude Alaska, Hawaii and APO addresses.
Can I return a perfume I do not like?
Sealed fragrance sold by Amazon is usually returnable within 30 days. Once opened it generally is not, so buy one bottle, wear it for a week, then decide.
Is a bigger bottle a better deal for a long-lasting scent?
Only if you will use it within about two years. Parfum and extrait need so few sprays that a 30 or 50 ml bottle can last longer than a 100 ml eau de toilette, and it will not go off before you finish it.
