A waterproof speaker is the one that goes to the pool, the shower, the beach and the campsite without a second thought, and the rating on the box tells you how far you can push it. IPX7 means it survives a 30-minute dunk in a metre of water; IP67 adds a dust seal for sand; IP68 goes deeper. We ranked the waterproof speakers in our audio catalog by their ingress rating and whether they float, battery life, driver power and bass, multi-speaker pairing, extras such as power banks and lights, and what tens of thousands of owners say after a summer or two of use.
We have not dunked every speaker ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. How we picked
- A real rating. Every pick is IPX7, IP67 or IP68; splash-resistant IPX4 and IPX5 speakers were left out.
- Battery for a day. Picks run 5 to 28 hours; we flag the short ones.
- Sound beyond the size. Dual drivers, passive radiators or a dedicated subwoofer where the maker lists them.
- Pairing. Stereo or multi-speaker linking on most picks.
- Owner ratings of 4.5 stars or better, and most picks have more than 10,000 reviews.
The picks
JBL FLIP 5, Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Black, Small

The JBL Flip 5 is the waterproof speaker that everyone seems to own, and 85,000 owners rating it 4.8 stars make it the highest-rated product on this page. It is a fabric-wrapped cylinder that fits a cup holder or a bag pocket, it survives a dunk thanks to its IPX7 rating, and it plays for about 12 hours. The racetrack driver and passive radiators produce more bass and volume than its size suggests, and PartyBoost links two Flips for stereo or a stack of compatible JBLs for a party. It has no speakerphone and no aux input, and the rating is IPX7 rather than the dust-sealed IP67 of the newer Go models. None of that troubles its owners. For a pool, a picnic or a shower shelf it is the default.
- 85,000 owner reviews at 4.8 stars, the highest here
- IPX7 and a tough fabric-wrapped cylinder
- PartyBoost pairs two for stereo or many for a party
- Loud for the size with real bass
- 12 hours is mid-pack for battery
- No speakerphone or 3.5mm input
- No dust rating; IPX7 only
Anker soundcore 2 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Stereo Sound, IPX7

The Anker soundcore 2 is the budget benchmark: more than 156,000 owners have rated it, they average 4.5 stars, and it costs a fraction of the brand-name picks. It is IPX7, so splashes and a drop in the pool do not matter, and its 5,200mAh battery runs about 24 hours, twice as long as the Flip 5. Twelve watts from dual neodymium drivers with Anker’s BassUp processing and a spiral bass port give it respectable low end for the size, though it cannot match the volume or clarity of the JBL and Bose speakers. Owners buy it for the shower, the kitchen and the garage, and its review history says it survives all three. If price is the first filter, start here.
- 156,000 owner reviews at 4.5 stars, the largest review base on the page
- 24-hour battery, double the Flip 5
- IPX7 at a very low price
- BassUp adds low end for a 12W speaker
- 12W is quieter than the JBL and Bose picks
- Mono stereo sound from one small body
- Older design with micro-USB charging on many units
JBL Go 3 - Portable Mini Bluetooth Speaker, big audio and punchy bass, IP67 waterproof and dustproof, 5 hours of playtime, speaker for home, outdoor and travel (Black)

The JBL Go 3 is the speaker you forget is in your bag until you need it. It is palm-sized with an integrated loop, rated IP67 so both water and sand stay out, and 53,000 owners rate it 4.8 stars, level with the Flip 5. JBL Pro Sound tuning gives it a fuller tone than a speaker this small has any right to, and it hangs from a shower rail or a tent pole. The limits are clear: five hours of battery, no stereo pairing, and a volume ceiling that suits one or two people rather than a group. If you want the same size with a longer battery and pairing, the Go 4 below is the newer version; the Go 3 remains the cheaper way to get JBL quality in a pocket.
- 53,000 owners at 4.8 stars
- IP67 adds a dust seal for sand and dirt
- Fits a palm and clips to a bag or shower rail
- Surprisingly full sound for the size
- 5 hours of battery is the shortest here
- No stereo pairing on this generation
- Not loud enough for a group outdoors
Bose SoundLink Flex Bluetooth Speaker (2nd Gen) - Portable Outdoor Speaker with Hi-Fi Audio, Waterproof and Dustproof, USB-C, Up to 12 Hours Battery Life, Black

The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is the pick when sound quality matters more than price. Owners rate it 4.7 stars across 13,000 reviews and the word that recurs is balance: clear vocals, deep bass and no harshness at volume. PositionIQ senses whether the speaker is standing, lying on its back or hanging from its loop and retunes itself, which is useful in a shower or a tent. It is IP67, wrapped in silicone that resists drops and rust, and it floats. Stereo Mode pairs two Flexes, Party Mode joins other Bose speakers, and it works as a speakerphone. Battery is 12 hours, no better than the Flip 5, and the price is the highest among the compact picks. For a speaker you will listen to rather than just hear, it is the one.
- 13,000 owners at 4.7 stars for sound quality above all
- PositionIQ adjusts the tuning whether it stands, lies or hangs
- IP67, drop-resistant silicone body that floats
- Stereo pairing and a speakerphone
- Costs more than the JBL Flip and Charge
- 12 hours of battery, same as the Flip 5
- Bass is strong but volume is mid-sized
JBL Charge 6 Portable Bluetooth Speaker, Waterproof, Drop-Proof - Black

The JBL Charge 6 is the Flip’s bigger sibling for long days away from a plug. Its battery runs 24 hours plus four more with Playtime Boost, a ten-minute charge gives two and a half hours, and the same battery charges your phone through a built-in power bank. It is rated IP68, surviving a metre drop and 1.5 metres of submersion, which is tougher than the IPX7 Flip. AI Sound Boost analyses the music in real time to keep bass big and distortion low, and Auracast pairs two for stereo or links a group of current JBL speakers. It is bigger, heavier and pricier than the Flip 5, and at 6,300 reviews it is still gathering history, but owners already rate it 4.6 stars. For a weekend of camping it is the JBL to carry.
- IP68, the toughest rating on the page
- 28 hours of playtime and a built-in power bank
- AI Sound Boost cuts distortion at high volume
- Auracast pairing with current JBL speakers; 4.6 stars
- Larger and heavier than the Flip
- The priciest JBL here
- Newer model with 6,300 reviews so far

The Soundcore Select 4 Go is a shower speaker that happens to be good enough to take further. It is IP67, it floats, Anker rates it for 30 minutes at 3.3 feet, and the battery runs about 20 hours, which is remarkable for something this small and cheap. Five watts of output is enough for a bathroom, a tent or a bike handlebar and no more, and the sound is clear rather than deep. Two can pair in True Wireless Stereo. Owners rate it 4.7 stars across 13,000 reviews, the same as the Bose, which tells you how well it does the one job it is built for. If you want music in the shower without risking a pricier speaker, this is the one to hang from the tap.
- 13,000 owners at 4.7 stars at the lowest price here
- IP67 and it floats, so it survives a bath or a pool
- 20-hour battery for a 5W speaker
- Strap included and TWS pairing
- 5W is the quietest pick on the page
- Treble-forward sound with limited bass
- Not a speaker for outdoor groups
JBL Go 4 - Ultra-Portable, Waterproof and Dustproof Bluetooth Speaker, Big JBL Pro Sound with Punchy bass, 7-Hour Built-in Battery, Made in Part with Recycled Materials (Black)

The JBL Go 4 fixes the two things people wanted from the Go 3: it runs seven hours plus two more with Playtime Boost, and it pairs with a second Go 4 for stereo or links to other Auracast JBLs for a bigger party. It keeps the IP67 rating, the palm size and the integrated loop, and JBL says the bass is punchier than before. The grille and body use recycled plastic and fabric. It remains a small speaker, so a crowd outdoors will drown it, and it costs more than the Go 3. Owners rate it 4.6 stars across 19,000 reviews. If you are buying two minis for stereo on a desk or by the pool, the Go 4 is the one; if you are buying one for a shower, the Go 3 saves money.
- Stereo pairing and Auracast, which the Go 3 lacks
- 7 to 9 hours of battery, up from 5
- IP67 and palm-sized; 19,000 owners at 4.6 stars
- Punchier bass than its predecessor
- Still a small speaker with a modest volume ceiling
- Costs more than the Go 3
- Auracast pairs only with other Auracast JBLs
Ortizan X10 Portable Bluetooth Speaker (1st Gen), IPX7 Waterproof, Wireless

The Ortizan X10 is the budget speaker with the most on the box: 24 watts from two drivers and two passive radiators, a battery rated at 30 hours at moderate volume, Bluetooth 5.3 with a 66-foot range, a microphone for calls, dual pairing of two units, and an RGB light show that cycles colours on the grille. It is IPX7 and Ortizan rates it for 30 minutes at three feet underwater. Owners have given it 4.5 stars across 49,000 reviews, which is a serious record for a less-known brand. The light show cuts into battery life, the tuning leans heavily on bass, and it is bigger than the Flip 5 for a similar volume. For a dorm, a hot tub or a kid who wants colours with the music, it does a lot for the price.
- 49,000 owners at 4.5 stars
- 30-hour battery, the longest here
- 24W with passive radiators for bass
- RGB light show and dual pairing
- Lights drain the battery faster
- Sound is bass-heavy rather than balanced
- Larger than the Flip for a similar volume

IPX7, IP67 or IP68?
The first digit after IP is dust, the second is water, and an X means untested. IPX7 (Flip 5, soundcore 2, Ortizan) survives 30 minutes in a metre of water but makes no promise about sand; it is fine for showers and pools. IP67 (Go 3, Go 4, Bose, Select 4 Go) adds a full dust seal, which matters at the beach or on a trail. IP68 (Charge 6) goes deeper for longer. None of these ratings covers salt water, so rinse any speaker in fresh water after a day at the sea, and none covers pressurised water from a tap or a hose aimed at the grille.
Floating, drops and the shower
Only the Bose SoundLink Flex, the Soundcore Select 4 Go and the JBL Charge 6 are explicitly described as floating or drop-proof; the Bose and Select 4 Go float, and the Charge 6 survives a one-metre drop. A speaker that floats is the one to take on a boat or into a pool, because a sinking speaker that is rated for a metre is still gone in a two-metre pool. For a shower, hang the speaker by its loop or strap above the spray rather than on the floor; the Go 3, Go 4, Bose and Select 4 Go all have loops or straps for exactly this.
Battery and charging in the real world
Manufacturer figures are measured at moderate volume, so halve them for a beach party at full blast. Even so, the spread is large: five hours for the Go 3, seven to nine for the Go 4, twelve for the Flip 5 and Bose, twenty for the Select 4 Go, twenty-four for the soundcore 2, twenty-eight for the Charge 6 and thirty for the Ortizan. The Charge 6 also charges your phone, which on a camping trip can matter more than its own runtime. Every pick charges over USB-C except some older soundcore 2 units, so one cable covers the lot alongside a charger from our USB-C wall chargers guide.
Can I take a waterproof Bluetooth speaker into the shower?
Yes. All eight picks are rated IPX7 or better, which covers steam and direct splashes. Hang it above the spray by its loop. The Soundcore Select 4 Go and JBL Go 3 are the cheapest shower choices.
Which waterproof speaker floats?
The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) and the Soundcore Select 4 Go are described as floating. The JBL Charge 6 is drop-proof and survives 1.5 metres of submersion but is not listed as floating.
Is IPX7 safe for the beach?
For water, yes. For sand, IPX7 makes no promise; the X means dust was not tested. The IP67 JBL Go 3 and Go 4, Bose and Select 4 Go and the IP68 JBL Charge 6 are sealed against dust as well.
Which has the best sound quality?
The Bose SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) is the owner favourite for balanced, detailed sound with deep bass. The JBL Flip 5 and Charge 6 are louder with a bass-forward JBL tuning. The small Go 3 and Select 4 Go are clear but limited.
Can I pair two speakers for stereo?
The JBL Flip 5 (PartyBoost), Go 4 and Charge 6 (Auracast), Bose SoundLink Flex (Stereo Mode), Soundcore Select 4 Go (TWS) and Ortizan X10 (dual pairing) all pair with a second identical unit. The soundcore 2 and Go 3 do not.
