I use a similar device to extract audio data from the HDMI feed off of my Google Chromecast, then send the audio to a high-end Digital Analog Converter (DAC) for playing through my hi-fi stereo system. One important point to note is that digital audio output (SPDIF standard) on this RYXN device is just optical. You cannot connect an RCA coax cable. Unknown to me when I received this item was that my DAC has a broken optical input. Therefore I cannot connect this device. This audio extractor is unable to pass through any HDMI signal or to extract audio when the signal’s source is an Apple TV 4K model. The best it can manage is a few seconds before the “no signal on HDMI) message reappears on the TV each time the audio format slider is moved.The same HDMI cables with an HDMI-HDMI joiner connector work just fine. The product page’s audio setting (Dolby Digital) has no beneficial effect. Setting the Apple TV to 1080i or 720p had no effect. The "RYXN HDMI 2.0 Audio Extractor 4K 60Hz" can extract audio from a video stream carried on the HDMI cable from a source to the TV or an A/V receiver. The signal extracted can be 2.1 or 5.1 channel of audio.I tested this unit on an Amazon FireTV 4K Max Stick and it worked very well. If the Fire TV 4K Max Stick is set to PCM only, the output signal from the RYXN HDMI 2.0 Audio Extractor is always 2.1 PCM. Very small, so it will not stick out like a sour thumb. It works exactly as designed: It will pass through the HDMI video and redirects Audio to the Optical port. It has a physical setting for 5.1 to the Optical port. I have an older similar type of HDMI extractor and you have to choose 5.1 either with a push button or little remote and it does not remember this setting when the power is unplugged or lost.
