Plain silver or plated silver?
Bare sterling (the Silpada) tarnishes slowly to gray and polishes back in a minute with a cloth. Silver with a platinum or rhodium layer (the BORUO rings, the STARCHENIE) stays white with no polishing, but the layer wears through at the edges after a couple of years of daily use. Wrap a thin strip of paper around the base of the finger, mark the overlap and measure it in millimeters: about 52 mm is a US 6, 54.5 mm a 7, 57 mm an 8, roughly 2.5 mm per full size. Measure at the end of the day when fingers are largest and go up a half size for wide bands. If you own a ring that fits, measure its inside diameter instead: 16.5 mm is a 6, 17.3 mm a 7, 18.2 mm an 8.
