I’m so glad someone has taken the time to collect such a body of interesting stories such as this. I’d never given much thought to the history of physical fitness; but I’m soon realizing it is my favorite history topic! It makes me wonder what my body is capable of (given the right programs/etc). The books is a very fun & easy read, too. I love it. I can’t imagine anyone not being amazed by some of this information. So worth the time to read. Or even better - read it aloud to your loved ones (or students). The book is broken up into manageable short stories, making it easy to read a little her

Not knowing if I would be interested in a book on physical fitness, I went ahead and bought it. I started flipping through it when I got back from the mailbox and 30 minutes later, I sat down. I was surprised at how much I learned and enjoyed reading all the bios on historical figures and how they worked out. I’m sure the physical fitness buffs will love the detailed workout information. Easy to read and well-written, I’d encourage you to buy them for stocking stuffers for next Christmas!
A well-researched, interesting and easy read.
This is one of my favorite books about fitness that I have read and I have read many many fitness books. I definitely recommend reading it, especially if you need a bit of motivation and inspiration. If the greatest athletes ever exercised this way or that or are one way versus other ways, it is worth experimenting and see what works for you.
This book is awesome to read to learn on the different cultures of training and diets. I loved of how this book is a quick to the point examples and details. Thank you for all the research and hard work you did to put this all together as a easy read.
It’s a very nice read and provides a brief history of many different aspects of physical fitness.
Great concept, but very short. Could have been a great book if it was more in depth and had listed sources. As is, most of this info can be found from google headers or Wikipedia.
Not really the book I was expecting. I thought it would be a book with a little more depth and a scholarly attempt at chronicling the history of physical fitness but it’s basically condensed Wikipedia article tidbits of athletes and their training modalities and glimpses of different warrior cultures and some very basic information on them.If you follow James on Instagram, these are more or less the transcripts of the shorts/reels he posts.I was a bit disappointed since I’m a big fan of James and his work on IG and was definitely expecting more.
