This book is a nice overview of winter. For children first expanding their vocabulary, this book was a very nice read.It not only goes into details about winter, but it also adds a nice vocabulary as well as full sentences.A great winter read. The perfect read for a first grade class.

Book is about animals in winter. no hidden messages about anything.It is not scary or crazy just factual.Written in 1964 by a science teacher with 35 years experience teaching in a Manhattan private school, it is for grades 1-3. Author tells about the beautiful Monarch butterflies that migrate so far into Mexico and California for the winter, animals that hibernate, and animals that hunt for scarce food during the winter.Pictures are easy to see during a 'come to the rug' reading time.
