This will be a great upgrade for customers accustomed to "gamer brand headset" caliber sound. The Kithara, particularly with a DAC/ amp, is entry level audiophile sound that frankly blows the Maxwell 2 away in audio quality with relative ease as well as being less expensive and considerably lighter and more comfortable. I think the Kithara is probably based on HiFiMan's Ananda line and has similar tuning to some of their best high end audiophile headphones like the Arya Stealth and HE1000se that are well known to be S-tier for gaming. I'm trying to pick my first pair of audiophile headphones, so I got this and a few others around the same price. Once I put this on, I actually did not want it to win because of how ugly it is and how much weight I feel on the top of my head. I believe my head is relatively short but wide, and I also have glasses. The space in the headband looks ridiculous on me, and the earcups sit at a weird angle where the tops stick out like the top of a V. The clamp force is definitely looser than I'm used to. This is literally the only headset in my life I've ever worn that actually fits my massive head. (For context I am 6'4, 295lbs). I am in shock. I purchased and returned. Mic will not work for Xbox. And should have paid more attention to the mic reviews. No noise filtering on a $300 headset is dumb. This thing can pickup the kids in the next yard playing outside. The mic sound your friends will hear, will also change drastically with the mic position. Closest to your mouth is too much, out straight is good for your voice but then it picks up room noise as if that was a feature, turning it around makes it dull and fish bowl naseley. These sound AMAZING for a pair of headphones at $300 or below and they are comfortable even after hours of wearing them. The sound is pretty robust and full and I enjoy using them for gaming and listening to music. The signature is warm which is what I prefer in headphones. They definitely benefit from hooking them up to an amp.. plugging them into an Xbox or PS5 controller via 3.5 just doesn’t supply enough juice to drive them properly. First off full transparency I did not end up keeping these headphones because I have the Hifiman Ananda Nano. However I will tell you this they are fantastic. The build quality is flat out excellent.
