Hatchet

Classic story of survival that holds up. I remember reading this when I was a child and it being a quick read that stuck in my memory. My 10 year old son and I read it together. Even at the hardest, bleakest moments Paulson handles the story with finesse.

My son and I both loved this one. Great adventure story that’s easy to get pulled into and keeps moving the whole way through. One of those books that makes kids actually want to keep reading.

Great book but the bottom of the cover was damaged.

I read this as a child, the year it came out. I just read it again. Surprisingly, I remembered the story almost word for word, it made such an impression on me as a kid. One thing that annoys me is that the publisher still, after nearly 40 years, hasn't fixed the obvious typo in the first chapter: the airplane is actually a Cessna 206, as described, not a Cessna 406, as written.I should also note that this book is the best of the three coming of age books about boys with hatchets: Hatchet, Where the Red Fern Grows, and My Side of the Mountain.

Wonderful story of a boy’s growth as he overcomes adversity and becomes incredibly self reliant. Highly recommended for anyone, but especially young teens.

The character Brian visibly matured in his reflections on what he called mistakes. He pulled from his limited knowledge prior to the accident and applied with the hard lessons learned to survive, even thrive in the circumstances. A great read!
