December 21, 2018: Below is my original review I wrote 12 years ago. I noticed recently it got deleted as a review, but I saved it. I still do Egoscue exercises regularly – at age 60, they keep me in shape for hiking, biking, & kayaking. In 2014, back pain returned when I was not doing them very often, but Egoscue saved the day again. I visited the clinic about 1.5 years ago and they gave me great exercises for tennis elbow.Pain Free for Mom With Back Pain & Son with Scoliosis, July 10, 2006Almost a year ago, in July 2005, I happened to find "Pain Free" searching on Amazon.com. I purchased several copies of a Pain Free book (I often give them as gifts to my friends) and the only regret I have is not being introduced to this method much earlier in life. The Pain Free book gives a completely different perspective on the underlying cause of musculoskeletal pain. Pete Egoscue, the author of this method, developed it as a result of dealing with his own pain. When he was told that he had to live with chronic pain for the rest of his life after a Vietnam War injury, he figured out a way to heal himself with very special exercise program that later expanded and become the Ego
Moving Again: My first four months at EgoscueAugust 1, 2014As an introduction, I am a 43 year old male, have been married for 17 years with four young children, am a pediatric doctor specializing in the care of hospitalized children, and a devout Christian involved in medical missions. I would say that my life has not been easy but has been meaningful and filled with many wonderful things. I have always prided myself on being able to overcome life’s obstacles. When I was nine years old I was diagnosed with cancer and subsequently had three and one-half years of treatment. This was of course a
(Review is from my wife). In my 50+ years, I've had so many migraine headaches. I damaged my neck as a child, hurt my shoulder as a teen, my lower back and my ankle as an adult. As a result, I have carried a lot of pain around though I've been to doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists and more. I've tried trigger-point therapy, massage, yoga, pain meds, special pillows and more. But still, my shoulders and neck were chronically stiff and tight, I had stabbing pains between my shoulder blades and a morning migraine was a common occurrence.Fast forward to now, reading Pain Free by Pete Egos
This book, or rather this method, completely changed my life after 1 neck injury and 2 repetitive stress shoulder injuries:I had a friend tell me about this book and I had it on my shelf and would thumb through it occasionally and LIKE ALL OF THE PEOPLE LEAVING NEGATIVE REVIEWS I THOUGHT THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANY HELP. After my first shoulder injury, a year in PT and yoga therapy I tossed this book straight into the garbage. Fast forward a year later and I hurt my shoulder AGAIN only WORSE! PT and yoga therapy got me out of pain but I never actually recovered - I couldn't get back to the comp
I cannot say enough good things about this book. Here's my story.. I've had neck pain on and off for the past 9 years or so. Stiffness, knots, periods of about 2-3 days where I couldn't move it at all, but after those 3 days it would always resolve itself. Well about 3-4 months ago, I woke up one morning and I couldn't move my neck back and felt like I had gotten hit with a baseball bat in the back of my neck. As usual I assumed after a couple days it would loosen up after using some ibuprofen, cold compresses, etc. Well, unfortunately that was not the case. For the next 6 weeks I was in pain
Terrific roadmap to overall health which I expect to follow for the rest of my life. Don’t ignore this ultimate wisdom!
This is a great book with good information but if you suffer from chronic pain like myself just doing the exercises in the book might help but I don't believe the book itself would be the cure for your pain. The reason I am saying this is because according to the book you have to diagnose the source of your pain and if you feel pain in different parts of your body like back and knee or neck and back then I believe it would be hard without the help of a physical therapist. After reading the book, which makes great sense because Pete sees our bodies as a whole, I believe it's necessary the help
