Bone conduction, hybrid or ear-hook earbuds?
Pure bone conduction (OpenMove, CXK, both Gelecek sets) leaves the ear fully open and is the safest for traffic, but bass is weak and a little sound leaks at high volume. A hybrid like the OpenRun Pro 2 adds a small air driver for bass while keeping the ear open. Ear-hook open-ear earbuds such as the JBL Sense and Endurance line hang a tiny speaker just outside the canal; they sound better still but sit closer to the ear. Glasses, helmets and fit
Bone conduction frames pass behind the ear and over the top of the arm of your glasses. Most owners with thin metal frames report no problem; thick plastic arms can push the transducer off the cheekbone and reduce volume. Under a bike helmet, wear the headphones first and the helmet straps outside them. If the frame slides on a sweaty run, moving the pads a few millimeters forward toward the eye usually fixes it.
Can I swim with these?
No. IPX7 on the CXK survives being dropped in water, but Bluetooth does not travel through water, so none of these play audio while swimming. Rinse them after a salty run.
