Came ready to plug in and play! Love it. My original Echo in my living room area and the Tap I had in my bedroom both gave out on me within weeks of each other. You don't realize how dependent you become until they poop out! This Dot Max is fabulous and sounds just as good as the originals I had. The only think I don't like about having one in my bedroom is that it must be unplugged to take to other rooms upstairs which I did with the wireless Tap so that's a pain, and one has to wait for it to re-program each time it's unplugged and then plugged back in. I really miss my Tap.
