I really like this updated, modernized B85M motherboard with the M.2 slot. Everything works great overall. For anyone else looking into this board, the NVMe slot does use true PCIe NVMe lanes, but it is bandwidth limited. On a Samsung 970 EVO Plus, I was able to reach about 1650 MB/s. That drive is capable of around 3500 MB/s on a modern platform, but even at this speed it’s still much faster than a SATA SSD, which tops out around 550 MB/s.If you plan on installing a newer OS like Windows 11, the board may not automatically identify the chipset properly. No need to buy overpriced DDR4 memory.
I haven't owned a Intel motherboard for over 16 years because they didn't come with the required features I needed, which was 2 PCI slots and 1 PCI-1x slot to use the SCSI controller and the additional SATA/IDE controller with compatibility for IDE drives using the IDE to SATA adapters. This is the first Intel motherboard that came with all features I needed plus a lot more than expected.If I knew that Intel 4th gen motherboards were this compatible and twice as fast as the AMD FX 8350 / Phenon II X6 1100T was, I would have upgrade much sooner. My current setup is just as fast as my AMD Ryzen
