We love ours! Due to the layout of our kitchen, out trash can has to be at the end of our counter. For years we had a simple plastic trash can with a flip lid. Then we discovered that our little dog managed to find a way to open the lid and get stuff out of it while we were not looking...and then tore it to shreds all over the house. I use this trash can as a recycle bin in a tall kitchen cabinet. The sensor works OK but you have to pause just a split second while you wait for the lid to open. This can is really good if you have a phobia for touching lids; other than that I cannot recommend this as a main trash can in the kitchen because the automatic lid is gimmicky at best.The lid opens in less than a second with a quiet whir like a remote controlled toy car and shuts with a thud. UPDATE after 3 weeks of use:A couple of annoying issues cropped up.First of all, the charcoal filter does absolutely nothing. Most likely, it has to do with the awkward placement of it, atop the actual bin and under the lid. Seems a rookie designing mistake, placing it there rather than on the underside of the lid. So, don't waste your money on replacement filters, just keep a box of baking soda handy and sprinkle the inside of the can a couple of times a day; it works much better and costs next to nothing.That's the reason for taking a star off. Get this! I was looking for a hands free trash can that was stainless steel so it matches my kitchen. I tdidn't want a huge one, because I didn't want it to take up a lot of space. I found this one and my brother highly recommended it. It holds a good amount of trash, I just put the white plastic kitchen garbage bag into it. It has a plastic ring that holds it in place, which makes it easy to remove and replace the bag. We have a puppy who would knock the trash can over constantly, and we didn't have a lid for it. All of our kitchen appliances are stainless steel, so we finally caved in and purchased this. Pricey, but wow... our puppy can't even smell the food we dump in there anymore, so he pretty much leaves it alone. I really like the hands-free operation for scraping plates or just when your hands are full on the way to the trash. It's quiet, automatic and has a stay open feature for sustained open. My can was carefully wrapped and packed, arriving in perfect condition (no dings, dents, or scratches). I recommend purchasing a power cord if you have access to an outlet.
