An electric pressure cooker is the appliance that turns a weeknight into a weekend: dried beans in 40 minutes without soaking, a pot roast in an hour, rice, yogurt, stock and cheesecake from one pot that also sautes, slow cooks and keeps warm. Instant Pot made the category, and the current question is which Instant Pot, or whether one of the newer rivals with a ceramic pot or a built-in scale makes more sense. We ranked the electric pressure cookers and multi-cookers in our home and kitchen catalog by capacity and household fit, by the functions that get used, by inner pot material, by lid, venting and safety design, by how easy they are to clean, and by what tens of thousands of owners report after years of use.
We have not cooked in every one ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. For dedicated rice machines see our rice cookers guide, and if the air fryer side of a combo matters most, the large air fryers for families guide.
How we picked
- Pressure first. Every pick is a true electric pressure cooker; rice cookers and slow cookers with a pressure label went elsewhere.
- The pot matters. We favored stainless steel tri-ply pots for searing and longevity, and noted ceramic nonstick for easy cleaning with its shorter life.
- Size for the household. From 3 quart solo cookers to 8 quart family pots, with the trade-offs stated.
- Safety and venting. Lid locks, pressure limits, auto release and the position of the steam valve all counted.
- Owner ratings of 4.3 stars or better, with six picks past 2,500 reviews and three past 30,000.
The picks
Instant Pot Duo Plus 6 Qt 9-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, Stainless Steel

The Duo Plus is the Instant Pot to buy if you buy one: a 6 quart pot that feeds four to six, nine functions that add sous vide and sterilize to pressure cooking, slow cooking, saute, steam, rice, yogurt and keep warm, and 15 one-touch programs on a clear display that shows time, temperature and pressure state. The Easy-Release switch vents steam without reaching over the valve, the 18/8 stainless pot has a tri-ply base that browns meat properly and will not spin while you stir, and the cord detaches for storage. Owners rate it 4.6 stars across 49,000 reviews. Its faults are shared by every stainless cooker: rice and oatmeal stick without a soak, the silicone ring picks up curry and chili smells, and it costs more than the Cosori and COMFEE below. For most kitchens it is the right pot.
- 49,000 owners at 4.6 stars, the benchmark 6 quart cooker
- Sous vide and sterilize on top of the core functions
- Easy-Release steam switch keeps your hand away from the vent
- Tri-ply stainless pot sears properly and lasts
- Stainless pot needs soaking after starchy foods
- Sealing ring holds odors; buy a spare for desserts
- Costs more than the Cosori and COMFEE
Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 Mini Electric Pressure Cooker, Slow Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté, Yogurt Maker, Warmer & Sterilizer, Includes Free App with over 1900 Recipes, Stainless Steel, 3 Quart

The Duo Mini is the most-reviewed product on this page by a wide margin, 184,000 owners at 4.7 stars, and the reason is simple: it is a full Instant Pot scaled to one or two people. The 3 quart stainless tri-ply pot sears and pressure cooks like its bigger siblings, seven functions cover pressure, slow cook, saute, steam, rice, yogurt and keep warm with 11 one-touch programs, the 700 watt element reaches pressure fast because there is less to heat, and the lid and pot go in the dishwasher. It also makes a good second pot for sides when the 6 quart is busy. The size is the limit: no whole chicken, no family chili, and most recipes assume 6 quarts, so you halve them. For a solo cook, a couple or a dorm it is the one to get.
- 184,000 owner reviews at 4.7 stars, the most of any product in this guide
- Same stainless tri-ply pot as the big Instant Pots
- Fits on a shelf; ideal for one or two people or as a second pot
- 700 W comes to pressure quickly
- 3 quarts is too small for a whole chicken or a family batch
- Most recipes are written for 6 quarts and need scaling
- No sous vide or sterilize program
Instant Pot Duo Crisp 8 Qt 11-in-1 Air Fryer + Pressure Cooker, Steel

The Duo Crisp is the answer to the counter-space problem of owning both an Instant Pot and an air fryer: one 8 quart base, a pressure lid for stews, beans, rice and a whole chicken, and a second lid with a heating element and fan that air fries, roasts, bakes and dehydrates from 70 to 450 degrees. The classic move is pressure cooking wings or a chicken and then crisping the skin under the air fry lid, and 30,000 owners rating it 4.7 stars suggests it works. The pot is stainless tri-ply with silicone handles and goes on the stove or in the oven. Costs are storage and bulk: two lids, a tall heavy base, and a round deep pot that air fries a smaller single layer than a square basket, so fries need shaking. For a family that wants both functions in one footprint it is the best combo available.
- Pressure cook then crisp in the same pot with the second lid
- 8 qt capacity for a family or batch cooking
- Stainless pot you can take to the stove or oven
- 30,000 owners at 4.7 stars
- Two lids to store and the air fryer lid is bulky
- Air frying in a deep round pot takes a shake or two
- Heaviest and tallest cooker here
Cosori Pressure Cooker 6QT, 9-in-1, Ceramic Coating Pot, 12 Safety Features

The Cosori 6 Qt is the pressure cooker that fixes the two things people complain about with an Instant Pot, sticking and venting. Its inner pot wears a ceramic nonstick coating, so rice, oatmeal and cheesy pasta slide out without a soak, and its steam valve is angled 30 degrees backward with the seal and vent control placed away from the jet, so releasing pressure does not put your hand in the steam. Nine functions include sous vide and ferment, 13 presets cover the usual meals, 12 safety features include a double-layer lid, and the 1,100 watt element comes up to pressure quickly. Owners rate it 4.8 stars across 7,400 reviews, the best score here. The trade is the coating: it needs silicone tools and hand washing and will eventually wear where a stainless pot will not. For easy cleaning and the safest venting it is the pick.
- 4.8 stars from 7,400 owners, the highest rating on this page
- Ceramic pot releases rice and oatmeal without soaking
- Steam release angled away from your hand and a separate seal/vent button
- Sous vide and ferment at a budget price
- Ceramic coating will wear sooner than stainless and dislikes metal utensils
- Newer brand in pressure cookers than Instant
- Lid is dishwasher safe but the pot coating is better hand washed
Instant Pot Rio Mini 4 Qt 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, Black

The Rio Mini fills the gap between the 3 quart Duo Mini and the 6 quart family pots: 4 quarts is four servings, enough for a couple with leftovers or a small family that is not batch cooking, and the cooking surface matches an 8 inch pan so browning a pound of meat in one go is practical. It is Instant’s newer Rio design with an anti-spin pot, a progress indicator that shows where the cook is, and a compact body in black or a rosewater pink that makes it easy to store. Seven functions cover pressure, slow cook, saute, steam, rice, yogurt and keep warm, and 6,800 owners rate it 4.5 stars. It still cannot take a whole chicken, it lacks the sous vide and sterilize of the Duo Plus, and the Rio line is younger than the Duo. For a household of two or three it is the right size.
- 4 quarts is the size between the 3 qt Mini and the 6 qt family pots
- Anti-spin pot and a progress indicator on the newer Rio design
- Compact and easy to store
- 6,800 owners at 4.5 stars
- Still too small for a whole chicken
- Fewer functions than the Duo Plus
- Newer line with less long-term history than the Duo
COMFEE' 12-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, 6 Quarts, Nonstick Pot

The COMFEE 6 Qt is the budget route to a full-size multi-cooker, and owners rate it 4.6 stars across 2,600 reviews, which is the same score as the Duo Plus for a good deal less money. It pressure cooks, slow cooks, makes rice and yogurt, steams, sautes, bakes cake and cooks eggs, with a dozen or so presets, a 24-hour delay timer, ten safety features including auto pressure release and a lid lock, and a box full of accessories: ladle, spoon, measuring cup, condensation cup and steam rack. The inner pot is nonstick, which is easy to clean but will not last like Instant’s stainless and dislikes metal tools, the brand has thinner support than Instant, and even COMFEE’s own listing is vague about whether it has 12 or 14 presets. As a first pressure cooker on a budget it is a good one.
- Full 6 qt multi-cooker at a budget price
- 4.6 stars from 2,600 owners
- Nonstick pot and a 24-hour delay timer
- Comes with every accessory in the box
- Nonstick pot rather than stainless; shorter life
- Smaller brand support than Instant
- Spec sheet is inconsistent about preset counts
Midea 12-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, 6 Quarts, 12 Presets, Multi-Functional Programmable Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Sauté Pan, Yogurt Maker, and More, Stainless Steel

The Midea 6 Qt is the budget cooker to pick if you want a stainless pot: where the COMFEE and Cosori use coatings, Midea gives you a stainless steel inner pot that goes in the dishwasher and will not wear out, with 12 presets covering pressure cooking, saute, steam, slow cook, oatmeal, soup, rice, beans, chili, yogurt, cake and keep warm. A nine-layer safety system handles pressure limits, over-temperature and automatic overpressure release, and the 1,000 watt element is in line with the Instant Pots. Owners rate it 4.5 stars, though with about 1,000 reviews it is the least-proven 6 quart here. Like every stainless pot it needs a soak after rice or oatmeal, and the display and buttons are plainer than Instant’s. For a durable pot on a tight budget it is the better buy than a nonstick rival.
- Stainless steel pot at a budget price, unlike the COMFEE
- 12 presets and nine-layer safety system
- Dishwasher-safe pot and lid
- 4.5 stars from 1,000 owners
- Fewer reviews than the other 6 qt picks
- Stainless pot sticks like any other without a soak
- Plainer display and controls than Instant
CHEF iQ Smart Pressure Cooker with WiFi and Built-in Scale - Easy-to-Use 10-in-1 Multicooker with 500+ Guided Recipes - Rice Cooker, Slow Cooker, Instant Meals for Foodies - 6 Quart - Family Size

The CHEF iQ is the pressure cooker for people who want to be told what to do: a scale built into the base weighs the rice or beans you pour in and the app sets the water and the time, guided video recipes send each step to the cooker over WiFi, and the pressure releases itself at the end with a quick, pulse or natural method you choose, so you never stand over the valve. Firmware updates add presets over time. Owners rate it 4.3 stars across 3,000 reviews, the lowest on this page, and the critical reviews are about the app and connectivity rather than the cooking; without the phone it is a decent but ordinary 6 quart cooker. It costs about what the Duo Plus does. If guided cooking and hands-off venting appeal, it is unique; if you already know how to cook beans, buy the Instant Pot.
- Built-in scale weighs ingredients in the pot and sets liquid and time
- Automatic pressure release so you never touch the valve
- Guided video recipes step through the app
- 3,000 owners at 4.3 stars
- App dependence: the best features need the phone and WiFi
- Lowest rating here; connectivity complaints in the reviews
- Costs about what the Duo Plus does

What size pressure cooker do you need?
Six quarts is the default for a reason: it holds a 4 pound chicken, a batch of chili for six or a week of beans, and nearly every recipe online is written for it. Three quarts (Duo Mini) is right for one or two people and for sides, but you halve recipes and skip whole birds. Four quarts (Rio Mini) is the in-between for a couple or a small family. Eight quarts (Duo Crisp) is for big families, batch cooking and stock, with the caveat that a large pot needs more liquid and takes longer to come to pressure, so it is a poor choice for small everyday meals. Do not buy up a size for the occasional party; buy for the meal you make most weeks.
Stainless or nonstick pot?
Instant Pot, Midea and CHEF iQ use stainless steel pots, several with a tri-ply base: they sear properly, go in the dishwasher, take metal utensils and last as long as the cooker, but rice, oatmeal and cheese stick and need a soak. Cosori and COMFEE use ceramic or standard nonstick pots: food slides out and cleanup is a rinse, but the coating wants silicone tools and hand washing and will wear in a few years, at which point you buy a replacement pot. Many owners of stainless cookers end up buying a spare nonstick pot for starchy meals; many owners of nonstick cookers later buy a stainless one. If you can only have one, stainless for longevity, ceramic for ease.
Venting, safety and daily life
Every cooker here has a locking lid, a pressure limit and overheat protection, so the safety difference is in the venting. The Cosori angles its valve backward and puts the control away from the steam, the Instant Pot Duo Plus has a switch so you do not reach over the vent, and the CHEF iQ releases pressure by itself. Whichever you buy, keep the sealing ring clean and buy a second one for desserts, because silicone holds the smell of last week’s chili, and store the lid upside down on the pot so the ring airs out. For one-pot rice without pressure, see our rice cookers and small rice cookers guides.
Which Instant Pot should I buy?
The Duo Plus 6 Qt for most households, the Duo Mini 3 Qt for one or two people, the Rio Mini 4 Qt for a couple who want a bit more room, and the Duo Crisp 8 Qt if you want an air fryer lid in the same pot.
Is a 6 quart pressure cooker too big for two people?
No. A 6 quart pot cooks small batches fine as long as you meet the minimum liquid, usually a cup, and it leaves room for a whole chicken or meal prep. A 3 or 4 quart pot is better only if counter and storage space are tight.
Are electric pressure cookers safe?
Modern ones are. Every pick has a locking lid that will not open under pressure, a pressure limit valve, overheat protection and automatic shutoff. Keep the valve and ring clean, do not overfill past the max line, and release steam away from your face.
Stainless steel or nonstick inner pot?
Stainless (Instant Pot, Midea) sears better, goes in the dishwasher and lasts for the life of the cooker but sticks with rice and oatmeal. Ceramic nonstick (Cosori, COMFEE) cleans with a rinse but needs gentle tools and will wear in a few years.
Can a pressure cooker replace a slow cooker and a rice cooker?
For most people, yes. Every pick has slow cook and rice programs. A dedicated fuzzy-logic rice cooker makes slightly better rice and a slow cooker holds a larger roast, but the pressure cooker does both well enough that owners usually give the others away.
