Best Gaming Headsets for PS5 and Xbox in 2026: Console Headsets Ranked by Owners

Eight console headsets ranked by sound, mic, comfort, platform and owner reviews: HyperX Cloud II, Cloud III, CloudX, Razer BlackShark V2 X, havit H2002d, Turtle Beach Recon 70, Xbox Wireless, Astro.

Our top pickHyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset - 7.1 Sur…9.0Our score

Console headsets have one job the PC crowd never worries about: they have to work with a controller. On PS5 and Xbox that means either a 3.5mm plug into the controller jack, which every wired headset here does, or a wireless radio the console understands, which is where PlayStation and Xbox part ways. We ranked the console headsets in our audio catalog by sound and driver size, microphone quality, comfort over a long session, which consoles each one actually supports and how, build quality, and what tens of thousands of owners report after months of play.

We have not worn each one ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. If you game mostly on PC, our wireless gaming headsets guide ranks the 2.4GHz dongle sets, and the screen to match is in our TVs for gaming on PS5 and Xbox guide.

How we picked

  • Works on both consoles for six of the eight picks via 3.5mm into the controller; the two wireless picks are platform-specific and say so.
  • Owner ratings of 4.3 stars or better, with four picks above ten thousand reviews.
  • A microphone that detaches or flips to mute, since a party chat with a stuck mic is the number one console complaint.
  • Comfort for long sessions: memory foam, weight and clamping force weighed from owner reports.
  • Honest wireless notes: Xbox needs the Xbox Wireless radio, PS5 needs a USB dongle, and neither accepts the other.

The picks

HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset - 7.1 Surround Sound - Memory Foam Ear Pads - Durable Aluminum Frame - Multi Platform Headset - Works with PC, PS4, PS4 PRO, Xbox One, Xbox One S - Red (KHX-HSCP-RD)
Connection3.5mm to controller; USB sound card with 7.1 on PCDrivers53mmMicDetachable noise-cancelling, TeamSpeak and Discord certifiedFrameAluminumComfortMemory foam cushions, padded leatherette headbandConsolesPS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch via 3.5mm

The Cloud II is the console headset by default, and 69,000 owners at 4.5 stars have kept it there for ten years. The reasons are simple: an aluminum frame that does not crack, memory foam cushions that stay comfortable for a whole evening, 53mm drivers with enough passive isolation to block a TV in the same room, and a detachable noise-cancelling microphone that TeamSpeak and Discord certified. On a PS5 or Xbox it plugs straight into the controller over 3.5mm; the USB sound card that adds 7.1 virtual surround is a PC-only extra. It has no flip-to-mute, the leatherette gets warm, and the design is old. None of that has stopped it being the headset most people should buy for either console.

Pros
  • 69,000 owners at 4.5 stars, the most-trusted headset we track
  • Aluminum frame that survives years of being dropped on the floor
  • 53mm drivers with strong passive isolation
  • Detachable mic certified for Discord
Cons
  • 7.1 surround works only on PC through the USB box
  • Leatherette cups get warm
  • Design is a decade old; no flip-to-mute

Razer BlackShark V2 X Gaming Headset: 7.1 Surround Sound - 50mm Drivers - Memory Foam Cushion - For PC, PS4, PS5, Switch - 3.5mm Audio Jack - Black
Connection3.5mm to controllerDriversTriForce Titanium 50mm, three-part tuningWeight240gMicHyperClear cardioid, fixedCushionsBreathable memory foam with a close sealConsolesPS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox via 3.5mm (stereo adapter may be needed on older Xbox One pads)

The BlackShark V2 X is the headset to buy when sound matters more than brand loyalty: Razer’s TriForce 50mm drivers divide highs, mids and lows into three zones with titanium-coated diaphragms, which gives footsteps and dialogue a clarity the budget sets cannot match. It weighs 240 grams, the lightest here, with breathable memory foam cushions that seal closely enough to block a room. The HyperClear cardioid mic rejects noise from behind and the sides but does not detach, the cable is fixed, and the 7.1 surround is a Windows software feature. On PS5 and Switch it is plug-and-play through the controller; most Xbox controllers have a 3.5mm jack and work the same way. Owners rate it 4.4 stars from 19,300 reviews, and the sound is the reason.

Pros
  • TriForce titanium-coated drivers give the clearest sound at this price
  • Only 240g with breathable memory foam
  • 19,300 owners at 4.4 stars
  • Strong passive isolation from the closed cups
Cons
  • Mic does not detach
  • 7.1 surround is Windows only
  • Fixed cable

The havit H2002d is the headset for a second controller, a kid, or anyone who wants a Cloud II for the price of a pizza. It borrows the formula openly: aluminum alloy frame, 53mm drivers, memory foam cups, a detachable high-sensitivity mic and a 3.5mm cable that plugs into any PS5, Xbox or Switch controller. Twenty-six thousand owners rate it 4.3 stars, which is a remarkable result for a headset this cheap. The savings show in the sound, which is bassier and less detailed than the HyperX or the Razer, and in the cable and plug, which are where owner complaints concentrate. It is not the headset for a competitive player who needs to hear footsteps, but as a spare or a first headset it is hard to argue with.

Pros
  • Aluminum frame, 53mm drivers and a detachable mic at the lowest price here
  • 26,000 owners at 4.3 stars
  • Light enough for long sessions
  • Works on every console through the controller
Cons
  • Looks and feels like a Cloud II imitation, because it is
  • Sound is bassier and less detailed than the HyperX and Razer
  • Cable and plug quality is where the savings show

HyperX Cloud III - Wired Gaming Headset, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Angled 53mm Drivers, Spatial Audio, Memory Foam, Durable Frame, Ultra-Clear 10mm Mic, USB-C, USB-A, 3.5mm - Black

The Cloud III is the Cloud II redone: the same aluminum frame and memory foam fit, now with angled 53mm drivers retuned for games, a 10mm microphone with a built-in mesh pop filter and an LED that lights when muted, and a cable set that covers 3.5mm into a controller plus USB-C and USB-A for PS5, PC, Mac and Switch docked. The mic upgrade is the headline; owners who moved from the Cloud II say chat clarity is the difference they notice. DTS spatial audio is a PC feature, the leatherette cups are still warm in summer, and it costs more than the Cloud II for a similar wearing experience. Owners rate it 4.3 stars from 12,700 reviews. If you talk as much as you play, pick this over the Cloud II; if you mostly listen, save the money.

Pros
  • Angled 53mm drivers and a much better mic than the Cloud II
  • USB-C, USB-A and 3.5mm in the box covers every platform
  • LED mute light on the mic
  • 12,700 owners at 4.3 stars
Cons
  • Costs more than the Cloud II for a similar fit
  • Spatial audio is PC only
  • Leatherette still runs warm

HyperX CloudX, Official Xbox Licensed Gaming Headset, Compatible with Xbox One and Series X|S, Memory Foam Ear Cushions, Detachable Noise-Cancelling Mic, in-line Audio Controls,Black/ Silver
Connection3.5mm to Xbox controllerLicensingOfficial Xbox licensed, tested by MicrosoftFrameAluminumMicDetachable noise-cancellingControlsIn-line volume and mic muteComfortHyperX memory foam cushions

The CloudX is the Cloud for Xbox, tested and licensed by Microsoft, which is a promise that the 3.5mm plug, the mic and the in-line controls behave on every Xbox controller with a headset jack. The in-line puck puts volume and mic mute on the cable, so you never dig through console menus mid-match. The rest is HyperX: aluminum frame, memory foam cushions, a detachable noise-cancelling mic and the fit that owners rate 4.5 stars from 7,300 reviews, tied with the Cloud II for the best score on this page. It is stereo only with no USB sound card, it works perfectly well on a PS5 controller despite the Xbox green on the box, and like the Cloud II it has no mute light. For an Xbox owner who wants a wired headset with no surprises, it is the pick.

Pros
  • Official Xbox licence means guaranteed controller compatibility
  • In-line volume and mute without touching console menus
  • 7,300 owners at 4.5 stars, tied for the best rating here
  • HyperX memory foam and aluminum frame
Cons
  • Stereo only; no USB sound card
  • Also works on PS5 but the branding is Xbox
  • Older design without a mute light

Best budget headset with a flip-to-mute mic

Turtle Beach Recon 70 Wired Multiplatform Gaming Headset for PC, PS5, Xbox

Turtle Beach Recon 70 Wired Multiplatform Gaming Headset for PC, PS5, Xbox
Connection3.5mm, 6.5 ft cable, PC splitter includedDrivers40mmMicFlip-to-mute boomWeightLightweightCushionsNoise-isolating synthetic leatherConsolesPS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch, mobile

Turtle Beach built the console headset category, and the Recon 70 is its budget staple: a light plastic headset with 40mm drivers, noise-isolating synthetic-leather cushions, a long 6.5-foot 3.5mm cable with a PC splitter in the box, and the feature that makes it worth choosing over the havit, a boom mic that mutes when you flip it up. On a console that is the fastest and most reliable mute there is. The 40mm drivers sound smaller than the 50 and 53mm sets above, the plastic build is honest about the price, and the cushions are thinner than HyperX foam. Owners rate it 4.4 stars from 5,500 reviews. For a kid who forgets to mute, or a party-chat regular on a budget, the flip mic alone justifies it.

Pros
  • Flip the mic up to mute, the fastest system on a console
  • Turtle Beach has made console headsets longer than anyone
  • 5,500 owners at 4.4 stars
  • Long 6.5 ft cable and a PC splitter in the box
Cons
  • 40mm drivers sound smaller than the 50 and 53mm sets
  • Plastic build
  • Cushions are thinner than the HyperX foam

Xbox Wireless Gaming Headset | Carbon Black | Over Ear Headphones | Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos | Consoles, PCs, TVs, Mobile, and More

This is the only headset here that talks to an Xbox wirelessly without a dongle: it pairs over the Xbox Wireless radio like a controller, connects to a phone over Bluetooth 5.3 at the same time, and includes a Dolby Atmos licence that normally costs extra, alongside Windows Sonic and DTS Headphone:X. Game and chat volume are rotating dials on the ear cups, which owners say are brilliant once learned and odd for the first week. The dual boom mics auto-mute when you stop speaking and isolate your voice, with an LED to confirm. Battery is up to 20 hours, which is modest, and it does not connect to a PS5 at all. Owners rate it 4.3 stars from 1,800 reviews. For an Xbox Series X or S, it is the wireless headset to buy.

Pros
  • Pairs directly to an Xbox with no dongle, like a controller
  • Dolby Atmos licence included at no cost
  • Bluetooth to a phone at the same time as the console
  • 1,800 owners at 4.3 stars
Cons
  • Does not work on PS5
  • 20-hour battery is modest
  • Earcup dials take a few sessions to learn

Best wireless headset for PS5

ASTRO Gaming Logitech G A20 Gen 2 Wireless Headset PlayStation - White/Blue

ASTRO Gaming Logitech G A20 Gen 2 Wireless Headset PlayStation - White/Blue
Connection2.4GHz USB transmitter for PlayStation and PC, up to 15 m rangeCross-consoleSeparately sold Xbox transmitter adds Xbox supportBattery15 or more hours, USB-C chargingMicFlip-to-mute unidirectional boomAudio3 EQ presetsDesignWhite and blue PlayStation colorway

The A20 Gen 2 is the wireless answer for PlayStation: a 2.4GHz USB transmitter that plugs into a PS5 or PC with 15 metres of range, a flip-to-mute unidirectional boom, three EQ presets switchable on the headset and USB-C charging, in Sony’s white and blue. Astro, now part of Logitech G, is the brand pro console players grew up with, and owners rate this one 4.4 stars from 2,100 reviews. Battery is about 15 hours, which means charging every few evenings, Xbox support needs a separately sold transmitter, and the plastic frame fits wide rather than snug. It cannot do what the Xbox Wireless Headset does on an Xbox, and that headset cannot do this on a PS5; buy the one for your console, or buy both transmitters if you own both.

Pros
  • Dongle built for PS5 and PC with 15 m range
  • Flip-to-mute boom and three EQ presets on the headset
  • 2,100 owners at 4.4 stars
  • An Xbox transmitter can be added later
Cons
  • 15 hours of battery
  • Xbox support costs extra
  • Astro build is plastic and the fit is wide

Wired through the controller, or wireless?

Every PS5 and Xbox controller has a 3.5mm jack, and a wired headset plugged into it carries game audio and chat with zero latency and nothing to charge. That is why six of our eight picks are wired, and why they work on both consoles and a Switch. Wireless is a convenience you pay for twice, in money and in the platform lock: Xbox uses its own radio, so only the Xbox Wireless Headset connects without a dongle, and PS5 takes 2.4GHz USB dongles, which is what the Astro A20 ships with. No headset here does both wirelessly out of the box.

Surround sound on console

Ignore the 7.1 badges on the wired sets; they describe PC software. On PS5 every headset here gets Tempest 3D Audio, which the console generates and sends down the 3.5mm cable or the dongle, so a cheap havit and a Cloud III receive the same spatial processing. On Xbox, Dolby Atmos for Headphones and DTS Headphone:X are paid apps, except that the Xbox Wireless Headset includes the Atmos licence. What differs between headsets is the drivers and the seal, which is why the BlackShark V2 X and the HyperX sets sound clearer than the 40mm budget models even with the same console processing.

Microphones and party chat

Console chat is where a headset earns its keep, and three mic designs show up here. Detachable booms (Cloud II, Cloud III, CloudX, havit) sound best and come off for music; the Cloud III adds an LED so you know you are muted. Flip-to-mute booms (Recon 70, Astro A20) are the fastest way to go silent when someone walks in. The Xbox Wireless Headset auto-mutes between sentences and isolates your voice. If you also want the headset for calls and video meetings on a laptop, our headsets for work calls guide covers models with the same boom mics and a USB plug.

Do wired gaming headsets work on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Yes. Both controllers have a 3.5mm headset jack, and every wired headset here carries game audio and chat through it with no setup. Old Xbox One controllers without a jack need a stereo adapter.

Which wireless headset works on both PS5 and Xbox?

None of these do out of the box. The Xbox Wireless Headset is Xbox only; the Astro A20 Gen 2 ships with a PlayStation and PC transmitter and can add Xbox with a separately sold transmitter. Wired headsets are the simple answer for a two-console home.

Is 7.1 surround on a wired headset real on console?

No. The 7.1 on the HyperX Cloud II and Razer BlackShark V2 X is PC software. On PS5 you get Tempest 3D Audio from the console with any headset; on Xbox you buy Dolby Atmos or DTS, except the Xbox Wireless Headset which includes Atmos.

Why can my party hear game audio through my mic?

Usually the headset volume is high and the mic is close to the ear cup, so it picks up leakage. Lower the headset volume, move the boom away from the cup, and on PS5 turn on the mic noise filter. The Xbox Wireless Headset and Cloud III isolate voice better than the budget sets.

Is the HyperX CloudX worth it over the Cloud II for Xbox?

If you want in-line volume and mute on the cable and the Xbox licence guarantee, yes. The fit, frame and mic are the same family. If you also game on PC and want the USB 7.1 box, buy the Cloud II; both work on PS5 as well.
