NOTE: This is a wired router. It does not project WiFi; you must use an ethernet cable to connect to it. If you need WiFi, your best option is to find a different router, like the RB952Ui-5ac2nD or the RB941-2nD-TC.I honestly do not understand how they keep the price so low. I spent a while looking for routers, and this was the best deal I could find by a long shot. I was skeptical at first, but it really is as good as everyone is saying. This little thing can do just about anything you want plus 100 more things.You do not need to be an expert to use this, but if you are one, you will love it.

This is a great little wired only ethernet router ... but pass if you are not knowledgeable in networking or have a network admin friend to help you.I bought this to replace an old Pentium 4 (yes P4) running a custom Linux firewall distribution. The old machine had a hardware failure, so I need something in the interim to replace it. I already use a Mikrotik wireless access point, so I figure it was a safe bet for the price. For those of you that don't know much about this little router it is an incredible device that will do everything you ever wanted to although it requires a very tech savvy person to configure. This can do a plug-and-play setup for a simple use, but it is designed more for the heavy user that wants to be able to customize 99% of the device. Most options are accessible through the GUI but a lot are accessible through the telnet console for example it will work as a load balancing multi wan device but you must set it up through the command line.

I bought this device basically to test the viability of using a stand alone router between a Comcast model 8 modem which is very fussy and a QNAP unmanaged 16 port switch which is very sensitive and prone to looping. The router stops the looping but the resulting low download speed is too slow and not a good fit for my home network. I returned the unit.

For the price, it's going to be hard to find a better router. For simple uses, it's very plug-and-play and works great out of the box with minimal configuration. For anyone who wants to do further configuring, the option is certainly there. This is carrier-grade hardware and the configuration interface clearly echoes that. This can be used for literally any networking application you'd like and the options are nothing if not extensive. Awesome piece of hardware all in all.

Don't recommend. Unfortunately stopped working at 10 months, still within warranty period, difficult customer service with Mikrotik and GETIC, the Amazon seller, refuses to initiate RMA warranty repair as directed by the manufacturer. It has all the options you could ask for, except retaining settings.Is it really so much to ask that it doesn't switch from bridge to router? If the device would stay in bridge mode, I'd give it 5 stars.Update: Upgrading to the release-candidate resolved my issues. This router is small but very versatile and offers an overwhelming amount of settings. I bought it especially to create several VLANS and must admit that I thought this would be easier. But I had little detailed knowledge of how to program a router for more complex tasks and did not have the time to study it, so I hired someone over the internet to do this for me remotely. It works perfectly and I am very happy with this little router.
