OXO Rust-Proof Aluminum Suction Sponge Holder

I rarely dislike Oxo items, like never. However, I had a similar Oxo item, which worked fine, but the plastic inside in the holder got moldy which I could not remove, is I looked for an alternative.Well I found this Oxo alternative which is better, much better.This has a smaller foot print and look great. I love the way this fits the sponge and yet looks very nice with a stainless steel sink.As to the suction cup, I don't expect this will stay attached for all time, that isn't how these things work, so the fact others have complained these cone off after a while does;t bother me. I recently renovated my kitchen so needed a sponge holder to place a plastic one which was really gross even though I scrubbed it weekly. This holder looks nice in my new stainless steel sink, is small so it blends in nicely and is out of the way. When I initially stuck this on to the inside of my sink, it fell off twice. I lightly scrubbed the area and wiped it clean, the suction cup has been there for the last three weeks with no problems! We've had this sponge holder for a little over a year and a half. We have a stainless steel sink and wanted something sleek to store our sponge in when we remodeled our kitchen. We didn't want to see the sponge out on the counter, so storing it down in the sink solved that aesthetic problem. This sponge holder fit the bill and worked great for a while. After 4 years of usage, still works and looks great! It keeps my sponge always within reach and allows it to drip dry into the sink.It surprisingly holds well to my brushed stainless steel sink if you wet the suction cup first before pressing to the surface. This sponge holder is very nice, nice finish and good material, but having only one suction cup makes it very unstable and the sponge falls almost every time.It need 2 suction cups or a lock on the base, so it does not swivel on the base.

I have a love-hate relationship with this thing. It’s not maintenance free.If you plan on checking your sponge into the sponge holder and having it stay in there, you should look elsewhere.Eventually, the suction will get weak, and the sponge holder will tilt at that point putting a sponge in there will make it fall right out. You don’t even have to roughly put the sponge in. If you even softly place it in there’s a good chance it’ll fall right out. I couldn't figure this out for days and when I put the suction on my steel sink, after 30 seconds it would just off. I even washed the side of the sink and the suction until they were squeaky clean, and nothing. Then my fiance took a look, put a drop or two of water on the back of the suction and stuck it on there.
