Our house is around 1200 sq ft. It’s also an energy star home. This heater heats the house up to 80 degrees in no time at all on setting 3. Ours is set to natural gas. The top gets warm, the picture I uploaded with the decorations on top was BEFORE it was hooked up to gas. I don’t recommend putting anything plastic on top, fairly certain it would melt. The top is warm/hot to touch depending on the person. My husband says it’s warm, I can’t leave my hand on it for very long. 5 stars. For the money, spectacular, was following this unit when it was $499 before the holidays, so $349.99 was a great deal. Arrived quickly, three days after order, assembly was simple, hook up to propane also simple. Looks very nice, flame is soft and realistic looking. Operating the unit is very easy. I understand the comment(s) about bending over to turn the unit on and receiving broken logs (sucks) but this unit is as nice, functionally, as units I was looking at for double and triple the price. It's compact and puts out lots of heat and nicely complements my living room. The optional blower which i bought, installed very easily.Problems, the magnet that holds the control panel cover isn't strong enough. If you walk near, it will fall down.The other is the control knob sticks sometimes and won't turn to start the fire.The recommended blower is very noticeable and I won't turn it on if I want to relax near the fireplace.

I had originally given this item One Star. I am now revising my review to account for user error. There is a whole novel's worth of experiences behind this item. I purchased this way back in March of 2023. It arrived beat up but since it didn't appear to affect the functionality of the item we kept it. We tried all summer to get someone to do the plumbing for it. Everyone we called either refused or no showed, so we did it ourselves. It wasn't hard, we have a full basement. Like many others in here, the first winter we used this it worked absolutely great & we couldn’t have been more pleased with our purchase. Now in our second winter the pilot light will not stay lit consistently. Sometimes it’s lit for 5 - 10 mins sometimes 30 or an hour and twice it’s actually stayed on through the night but we can’t count on it.So here we are, in the middle of the COVID 19 pandemic, our children are homeschooling & are frequently in the care of my elderly elderly mother while my husband & I are working out on the road for days at a time. Easy to install and hook up to my natural gas. This thing cranks some heat fs. Half way up at 32 outside I was sweating in shorts and a t shirt in a large living area usually very cold at these temperatures. Seems to be very sturdy. The problem with the cover falling I have not had and I have 3 100+ lb dogs running around. It is rather large but not too big. I recommend the blower that's recommended it makes the world of difference. The only con would be you have to manually turn it off and on as the fire place shuts off and turns on. Good little heater for the price. Only complaint is no remote or digital temp control. There is a dial you have to turn and find the right setting for your home. Also bought the blower. You have to manually turn that on and off each time. Overall good value, gets really warm and looks pretty good. I had a problem with the temperature control cover latching closed, eneded up being a broken magnet- they issued a partial refumd right away, i was able to get a replacement magnet free from the manufacturer. very happy with
