What Is the World Made Of?: All About Solids, Liquids, and Gases (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2)

After reading this to my daughter last night, we engaged in a 30 minute long game of "Solid, Liquid, or Gas?" The book does a great job of explaining the states of matter. For the "Try It Yourself" sections it, of course, uses water for a test subject, going through freezing, evaporation, and condensation. I had to promise that we would do the experiments today.Once again, I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to teach their young children about basic science.

I have a 6-yr old boy and a 7-yr old girl. It's very rare to find anything that they agree on but with What Is the World Made Of? I was able to find a book that both of them would enjoy and learn from at the same time. The easy-to-follow language made it easy for them both to follow along. The fun pictures and odd bits of humor kept them interested and wanting to know more. A fantastic find & one I hope to be able to use for quite some time.

YES! I love this book. My 3yo son recently asked why he couldn't hold water, so I bought this book to explain it. My kids found it interesting and can how tell you the difference between states of matter. It's really well done in terms of simple explanations (but also has a surprising amount of detail) and has cute illustrations. I highly recommend this book (and the series) to any science oriented parents.

Teachers would love this children literature book as it brings out the concept of matter and can be used at various levels in the elementary levels. I used excerpts from it during my science lesson and it worked wonders.

The subject is matter. It does a pretty good job explaining the concept to young kids. My 2nd grader just read it. Although the age range is up to 3rd grade, these books also reinforce science concepts to my 6th grader. Four stars because in this series there is inevitably there is always 1-2 pages they don't do well.

Love this book. I've used it to introduce matter to students grade KG through 4th grade (adding explanation/detail depending on the grade level). It's a great, kid-friendly introduction to solids, liquids and gases. Highly recommend.

There are a lot of these little books and they all are very well done. Our kids love the idea of getting to know about SCIENCE. The 7th grade teachers I work with even use it with their kids in Science class. I am a teacher and in need of some good science books for our class. This is a great book and should be used with four and five year old students. I also think that this book works great in elementary schools.
