A fixed camera watches one slice of a room; a pan-tilt camera turns to watch the whole thing, and the good ones follow a person or a pet across it on their own. That makes one pan-tilt camera the cheapest way to cover a living room, a garage or a yard that would otherwise need two or three fixed cameras. We ranked the pan-tilt and PTZ cameras in our cameras catalog by video resolution and night vision, how far they turn, whether they track motion and patrol on a schedule, where the clips are stored, indoor or outdoor rating, and what thousands of owners report after months of use.
We have not mounted every one of these ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. For fixed cameras, see our indoor security cameras and outdoor security cameras guides.
How we picked
- A real motor. Every pick pans at least 355 degrees and tilts; digital “360-degree” fisheye cameras were left out.
- Storage without a fee. A microSD slot, a hub or an NVR. The one pick that keeps its smart features behind a plan is marked.
- Night vision that is usable. Infrared on the budget indoor picks, color night vision or a spotlight on the outdoor ones.
- Auto tracking or patrol on at least the mid-range picks, since that is the point of a camera that moves.
- Owner ratings of 4.0 stars or better, and most picks have thousands of reviews.
The picks
TP-Link Tapo Pan/Tilt Security Camera for Baby Monitor, Pet Camera w/Motion Detection, 1080P, 2-Way Audio, Night Vision, Cloud & SD Card Storage, Works with Alexa & Google Home (Tapo C200)

The Tapo C200 is the pan-tilt camera most people should buy and the one most people do: more than 42,000 owners have rated it, and they average 4.5 stars. It pans a full 360 degrees and tilts 114 degrees from the Tapo app, records 1080p clips to a microSD card up to 512GB with no plan, and has two-way audio, infrared night vision to 30 feet, motion alerts and a privacy mode that turns the lens into the base. It does not track motion automatically and it is 1080p rather than 2K, which is why the Reolink below exists, but as a room camera, a nursery camera or a pet camera it does everything that matters for the price of a pizza.
- 42,000 owner reviews at 4.5 stars, the most-trusted camera here
- Full 360-degree pan plus tilt at a budget price
- microSD storage and no subscription
- Privacy mode and motion alerts in a simple app
- 1080p only, no 2K option on this model
- Infrared night vision, not color
- No auto tracking; it pans where you point it
REOLINK 4MP 2K Indoor Camera E1, Plug-in WiFi 6 Security Camera

The Reolink E1 is the Tapo’s step-up: 2K video with 30 percent more detail, a motor that follows movement across the room on its own, and dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for a steadier stream. Clips go to a microSD card, a Reolink Home Hub or an NVR with no fee, up to ten people can share the camera and four can watch live at once, and the cry detection makes it a popular baby camera. The compromises are a modest 50-degree tilt and no RTSP on this version, so it is not the pick for a Home Assistant setup. For the rest of us it is the best-value tracking camera on the page, and 18,000 owners back that up.
- 2K video and auto tracking at a budget price
- 5GHz Wi-Fi 6, rare on cheap cameras
- Four storage options, none of them paid
- 18,000 owners at 4.2 stars; cry alerts for nurseries
- No RTSP or ONVIF on this model
- 50-degree tilt is smaller than the Tapo
- Infrared night vision only
WYZE Cam Pan v3, Indoor/Outdoor Security Camera with 360° Pan/Tilt/Zoom

The Wyze Cam Pan v3 is the camera to buy when you are not sure whether it will live inside or out: it is IP65-rated, tilts a full 180 degrees as well as panning 360, and sees in color at night. Its party trick is Pan Scan, which cycles the camera through up to four saved positions on a schedule, and the AI tracking follows a dog or a visitor across the frame. Recording to a microSD card is free; the person-specific alerts and cloud clips need Wyze’s Cam Plus plan, which is the one thing owners grumble about. Outdoors it needs Wyze’s outdoor adapter. It has 33,000 reviews at 4.3 stars.
- Pan Scan patrol cycles through four custom positions
- Color night vision and IP65 body
- 33,000 owners at 4.3 stars
- Local microSD recording with no plan
- 1080p only
- Outdoor use needs the separate outdoor power adapter
- Person detection alerts need the Cam Plus plan
eufy Security Indoor/Outdoor Camera C31, 360° Pan &Tilt, AI AutoTracking

The eufy C31 is the outdoor pan-tilt pick for people who refuse to pay a subscription. It pans and tilts through a full 360 degrees, tracks people, vehicles and pets with on-device AI, and its f/1.2 lens and back-illuminated sensor produce genuine color at night rather than the grey-green infrared look. The IP66 body and dual external antennas are built for a patio or driveway where cheaper cameras drop their Wi-Fi. Clips go to a microSD card or a eufy HomeBase with nothing to pay. It is a 2025 model, so its 760 reviews are fewer than the veterans here, but at 4.3 stars they say the same things the spec sheet does.
- IP66 outdoor body with no monthly fee, ever
- Auto tracking and full-color night vision
- Dual antennas hold Wi-Fi across a yard
- Mounts upright, upside-down or on a wall
- Newer model with fewer reviews than the Tapo and Wyze
- Needs a power outlet; no battery
- 256GB card limit
TP-Link Tapo 2K QHD Outdoor Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Security Camera, 360° View, Motion Tracking, Color Night Vision, Free Person/Vehicle/Motion Detection, Cloud & SD Card Storage, 24/7 Recording, Tapo C520WS

The C520WS is Tapo’s outdoor pan-tilt camera and the best-rated outdoor pick here at 4.4 stars from 3,800 owners. It records 2K QHD video continuously to a card up to 512GB, pans 360 and tilts 130 degrees, tracks motion at high speed, and tells a person from a pet from a car without a subscription. Its starlight sensor gives color night vision to about 98 feet, further than any camera on this page, and a physical privacy mode blocks the lens inside the housing. It needs a nearby outlet, and the siren and light alarm are best left off on a shared driveway; otherwise it is the outdoor camera to buy if the eufy’s price is a stretch.
- Starlight color night vision to 98 feet
- Person, pet and vehicle detection with no plan
- 24/7 recording to a 512GB card
- Physical lens shutter for privacy; 4.4 stars
- Needs an outdoor outlet
- Tapo app has fewer pro features than Reolink
- Alarm sound is loud enough to annoy neighbours if misconfigured
eufy Security 4K Indoor Camera E30, No Subscription, Pan and Tilt

The eufy E30 is what you buy when 1080p and 2K are not enough: a 4K indoor pan-tilt camera that records around the clock to a card, follows people and pets with on-device AI, listens for crying and other sounds, and switches between a spotlight-lit color mode and infrared at night. The app stitches its view into a panorama so you tap where you want to look. It also works with Apple HomeKit, which almost none of the cheap cameras do, though HomeKit streams at 1080p. It costs about four Tapo C200s, which is the only real argument against it; owners rate it 4.5 stars.
- 4K detail, rare in a pan-tilt camera
- Panoramic view and Quick Focus Tap in the app
- HomeKit support plus Alexa and Google
- Spotlight color night vision; 4.5 stars
- Priced like two of the Reolinks
- Indoor only
- HomeKit streams at 1080p, not 4K
REOLINK Solar Security Cameras Wireless Outdoor 360° Coverage Argus PT

The Argus PT is the pan-tilt camera for the spot with no outlet: a battery camera with a solar panel that keeps it topped up, 5MP video, and a 355-degree pan and 140-degree tilt you steer from the app. Detection uses a PIR sensor with person and vehicle filtering, clips go to a card or a Reolink hub for free, and it connects on 5GHz as well as 2.4. Because it sleeps between events to save power, it cannot auto-track, and owners in cold climates report shorter battery life in winter; that is where its 4.1 stars come from. For a shed, a gate or a far corner of the yard it remains the only way to get a camera that moves without running a cable.
- The only wire-free pan-tilt here: battery plus solar
- Dual-band Wi-Fi and 5MP video
- No subscription; card, hub or FTP
- 9,700 owners
- No auto tracking
- 4.1 stars: battery life in winter and PIR delay are the common complaints
- Pan is slow compared with wired cameras
Arlo Essential Outdoor Pan Tilt Zoom Security Camera 2K Wired - 2-Cam

The Arlo Essential PTZ two-pack is here for households already on Arlo or who want the brand’s polished app and detection: each camera pans 360 and tilts 180 degrees in 2K, patrols on a schedule, and with the Arlo Secure plan recognises people, cars, pets and packages and listens for glass breaking or a barking dog. Without the plan you get live view and basic motion alerts, and there is no card slot, so the running cost is the real price. Two cameras for the money is good value if you were going to subscribe anyway; if not, the eufy and Tapo above do the smart part free.
- Two 2K pan-tilt cameras in one box
- Arlo app and detection are among the best when subscribed
- Patrol mode and audio detection for glass breaks and barking
- Dual-band Wi-Fi, 16 ft power cables
- Smart detection, video history and emergency response need the Arlo Secure plan
- No microSD slot
- Fewer reviews than the others here

Indoor or outdoor?
Indoor pan-tilt cameras (Tapo C200, Reolink E1, eufy E30) are cheap because they have no weather sealing and run from a wall adapter a few feet away. Outdoor models (Tapo C520WS, eufy C31, Arlo) add an IP65 or IP66 body, stronger antennas and a longer power cable, and cost two to four times as much. The Wyze Cam Pan v3 sits between the two: it is rated IP65 but needs Wyze’s outdoor power adapter to be safe outside. Only the Reolink Argus PT runs without a cable at all, on a battery topped up by its solar panel.
Auto tracking, patrol and privacy
Auto tracking turns the camera to keep a moving person or pet in frame; the Reolink E1, Wyze, eufy and Tapo C520WS do it, the Tapo C200 and the battery-powered Argus PT do not. Patrol (Wyze’s Pan Scan, Arlo’s patrol mode) cycles through saved positions on a timer, which is useful for a large garage or a yard with two gates. Privacy mode matters for an indoor camera in a living room: the Tapo C200 and C520WS turn the lens into the base so it physically cannot see, and the Reolink has a software privacy mode. Every camera here supports two-way audio.
Storage and subscriptions
Seven of the eight picks record to a microSD card with no plan, and the Reolinks and eufy also record to a hub or NVR. The Tapo and Wyze cameras offer optional cloud plans but do not need them for basic alerts; the Wyze person-specific alerts are the one feature that sits behind Cam Plus. The Arlo two-pack is the exception: live view is free, but detection, history and most of the app need Arlo Secure. If avoiding fees across the whole house is the goal, our security cameras without a subscription guide covers fixed cameras the same way, and the solar security cameras guide covers more wire-free options.
What is the difference between a pan-tilt camera and a PTZ camera?
PTZ adds optical zoom to pan and tilt. The home cameras on this page pan and tilt with a motor and zoom digitally in the app; true optical-zoom PTZ cameras are professional NVR cameras that cost several hundred dollars each.
Do pan-tilt cameras record while they are turning?
Yes. The camera streams and records continuously or on motion while the motor moves; auto-tracking models keep the subject centred as they turn. The battery Reolink Argus PT records only on PIR events to save power.
Which pan-tilt camera works with no subscription?
All of them except the Arlo two-pack record to a microSD card with no plan. The Tapo C520WS and eufy C31 and E30 also do person and vehicle detection free; Wyze keeps person-specific alerts behind Cam Plus.
Can I use an indoor pan-tilt camera outside under a porch?
Not reliably. The Tapo C200, Reolink E1 and eufy E30 have no weather rating; condensation and cold kill them. Use the Tapo C520WS, eufy C31 or Wyze Cam Pan v3 with its outdoor adapter instead.
Is a pan-tilt camera better than two fixed cameras?
For a single room or a small yard, one pan-tilt camera is cheaper and covers everything. For a driveway and a back door, two fixed cameras are better because a pan-tilt camera can only look one way at a time.
