Best Power Strips for a Home Office in 2026: Desk Strips, Towers and Smart Surge Protectors Ranked by Owners

Eight home-office power strips ranked by outlets, surge rating and owner reviews: NUOZHI desk strip, Tapo P316M and P306, Tagzilo tower, 4AC 6-USB extender, Amazon Basics Smart, VPSUN, Belkin GaN.

Our top pickCruise Essentials, NUOZHI 6 Ft Power Str…9.2Our score

A home office desk collects plugs the way a drawer collects cables: a laptop charger, two monitors, a lamp, a phone, a headset dock, a printer, a speaker. The wall has two outlets. A power strip built for a desk fixes that with enough spaced outlets for bulky adapters, USB-C ports strong enough to charge a phone or a laptop without their own bricks, a cord that reaches from the wall to the desk, and, if you want it, surge protection for the computer and app control for the lamp and the printer. We ranked the power strips in our accessories catalog by outlet count and spacing, USB-C wattage, surge rating in joules where one is claimed, cord length, whether the outlets can be switched from a phone, and what thousands of owners report after a year under a desk.

We have not load-tested every strip ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. This guide is the office companion to our general power strips with USB ports roundup and repeats none of its picks; for powering a laptop through one cable, see USB-C docks and hubs, and for a dedicated phone and tablet charger, charging stations for multiple devices.

How we picked

  • USB-C on every pick. A desk strip without a USB-C port is already out of date; every strip here has at least one, and we note the wattage.
  • Outlets you can use. We favoured wide spacing or rotating sockets so monitor bricks and laptop adapters do not block their neighbours.
  • Surge protection stated honestly. Joules where the maker gives them, and a clear note where a strip has no surge protection at all.
  • Cord and plug. Five to ten foot cords and flat plugs that fit behind a desk.
  • Owner history. Every pick has a strong or better owner rating and most have hundreds to tens of thousands of owner reviews; two newer models with fewer reviews are flagged.

The NUOZHI is the desk strip that tens of thousands of people bought for cruise cabins and kept using at home, and it earns a strong owner rating for one reason: it is small, neat and does exactly what a desk needs. Three AC outlets take a lamp, a monitor and a laptop brick, and four USB ports, three USB-A and one USB-C, charge a phone, earbuds, a watch and a headset without another adapter. The six-foot cord has a reusable tie and the whole thing is light enough to sit on the desktop beside the keyboard. The one thing to understand before buying is in the name: it is a non-surge strip, built that way because cruise lines ban surge protectors, so it offers no protection to a desktop PC or monitor. Put the computer on a surge-protected strip like the Tapo or Tagzilo and use this one for the chargers and the lamp. The USB-C port is 15 watts, enough for a phone and not a laptop.

Pros
  • Tens of thousands of owner reviews with a strong owner rating, the biggest base here
  • Small enough to sit on the desk, not under it
  • Seven devices from one wall outlet
  • Six-foot cord with a tie to keep it neat
Cons
  • No surge protection at all; do not put the computer on it
  • USB-C is 5 V 3 A, phone-charging only, no Power Delivery
  • Three outlets fill quickly

Best smart surge protector for a home office

Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip, Matter, P316M, Energy Monitoring

8.9Our score
Tapo Smart Wi-Fi Power Strip, Matter, P316M, Energy Monitoring
Outlets6 AC, each individually app-controlled, surge protectedUSB3 always-on USB-A at 5 V 2.4 ASmart homeMatter certified; Tapo app, Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, Samsung SmartThingsMonitoringPer-outlet energy monitoring, schedules, overcharge auto-offCord3 ft with flush plugControlVoice via Siri, Alexa, Bixby or Google Assistant

The Tapo P316M is the strip for a home office where the printer, monitors, lamp and speakers should switch off at six and the computer should stay on. Each of its six surge-protected outlets is controlled on its own from the Tapo app or by voice, with a schedule, an away mode and per-outlet energy monitoring that shows what the desk costs to run, and because it is Matter certified it joins Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings without a hub. An overcharge mode cuts power to an outlet once a connected battery is full. Three always-on USB-A ports handle a phone and a headset. Hundreds of owners give it a strong owner rating. The cord is only three feet, so it lives near the wall or needs the desk close to an outlet, the USB ports are 12 watt USB-A with no USB-C, which is odd on a 2026 strip, and it is new enough that the review base is small. For an office that wants control rather than just outlets, it is the most capable strip here.

Pros
  • Six outlets you can switch, schedule and meter from a phone
  • Matter means it works with every major smart-home platform
  • Surge protection for the computer outlets
  • Hundreds of owner reviews with a strong owner rating
Cons
  • Only a 3 ft cord
  • USB ports are 12 W USB-A, no USB-C
  • Newer model with a smaller review base

12AC 3USB Power Strip Tower Surge Protector 1800J, 10ft, Pink, 1
Outlets12 AC on four sidesUSB2 USB-A at 3.1 A, 1 USB-C PD 20 W, 3.4 A totalSurge1800 joules; overload, short-circuit and over-current protectionCord10 ft with 45-degree flat plugBuildFire-resistant housingDevicesUp to 15 at once

A tower solves the problem a flat strip cannot: twelve bulky adapters with nothing blocking anything. The Tagzilo puts twelve AC outlets around four faces of an upright column, so each plug has clear air around it, and adds two USB-A ports and a 20 watt USB-C Power Delivery port on top. The 1800 joule surge rating protects a desktop and monitors, overload and short-circuit protection are built in, and the ten-foot cord with a 45-degree flat plug reaches from a wall outlet to a desk in the middle of a room. Hundreds of owners give it an excellent owner rating, the best on this page. It is listed in pink, so if that does not suit the office look for the same tower in black under its own listing; the three USB ports share 3.4 amps, so charging three phones at once slows all three; and it has a shorter review history than the big-brand strips. For a desk with monitors, a dock, a lamp, a printer and speakers it is the tidiest answer.

Pros
  • Twelve outlets in a footprint the size of a coffee mug
  • Ten-foot cord reaches a desk across the room
  • 1800 J surge rating
  • Excellent owner rating from hundreds of owners
Cons
  • Pink; other colours are separate listings
  • USB total is 3.4 A shared, so one fast charge at a time
  • Fewer reviews than the NUOZHI and Amazon Basics

Power Strip with USB Port - 4AC and 6 USB (3 USB C), Outlet Extender 5FT
Outlets4 ACUSB3 USB-C and 3 USB-A, GaN, PD 20 WRating2500 W; grounded, over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protectionCord5 ftShapeVertical, compact desk footprintDevicesUp to 10 at once

This vertical extender is for the desk where the problem is phones, tablets, earbuds and a watch rather than mains plugs. It has four AC outlets around a short column and six USB ports on top, three of them USB-C with 20 watt Power Delivery on GaN circuitry that runs cooler than older chargers, so a phone, a tablet and a pair of earbuds all charge from one spot with no adapters. The five-foot cord reaches the wall, the 2500 watt rating covers a monitor and a laptop brick, and the circuit has grounding, over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection. Hundreds of owners give it a strong owner rating. The maker gives no surge rating in joules, so treat it as a charging hub rather than a surge protector and keep the computer elsewhere; 20 watts is fine for phones and slow for a laptop; and four outlets is enough for a lamp, a monitor and a laptop and no more. As the USB side of a two-strip desk it is the best pick here.

Pros
  • Three USB-C ports, the most on any strip here
  • Vertical body takes little desk space
  • Hundreds of owner reviews with a strong owner rating
  • GaN charging circuitry runs cooler
Cons
  • No stated joule rating, so treat it as unprotected for the PC
  • PD 20 W is phone and tablet speed, not laptop
  • Four AC outlets only

#59.0Our score
Tapo Smart Plug Outlet Extender, P306, 3 Individual Smart Outlets
Outlets3 smart AC plus 3 always-on AC, 1.57 in spacingUSB3 smart USB ports, 18 W fast charging incl. USB-C PDMountingPlugs into the wall outlet with a mounting screw and stabilising postSmart homeTapo app, Apple HomeKit, Alexa, Google HomeControlApp and voice for AC and USBDevices9 at once

The Tapo P306 is the answer when the wall outlet is right behind the desk and a cord would just be clutter. It plugs straight into the socket, screws to the outlet plate for stability, and offers three smart AC outlets, three always-on AC outlets and three USB ports with 18 watt fast charging including USB-C, all with 1.57 inches between outlets so laptop bricks fit. The three smart outlets switch and schedule from the Tapo app, Apple HomeKit, Alexa or Google Home, so the lamp and the monitor can go off together at night while the router on an always-on outlet stays up. Hundreds of owners give it a strong owner rating. It only makes sense where the outlet is accessible, since nothing reaches the desk from a socket behind a cabinet; TP-Link does not publish a joule rating, so the computer should be elsewhere; and nine devices on a wall outlet means heavy adapters hang from it, which the mounting screw is there to handle.

Pros
  • No cord: turns the wall outlet behind the desk into nine ports
  • Three app-controlled outlets plus three always-on
  • Works with HomeKit as well as Alexa and Google
  • Hundreds of owner reviews with a strong owner rating
Cons
  • Only works where the wall outlet is reachable
  • No surge rating published
  • Heavy adapters hang off the wall

Amazon Basics Smart Plug Power Strip with 6 Individually Controlled Outlets and 3 USB Ports (2 USB-A and 1 USB-C), WiFi, Works with Alexa Only, 2.4 GHz, No Hub Required, White
Outlets6 AC, each individually controlledUSB2 USB-A, 1 USB-CSmart homeAlexa only, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, no hubControlAlexa app schedules, routines and remote on-off; group outletsSetupPlug in and add in the Alexa appColourWhite

The Amazon Basics smart strip is the budget way to get six app-controlled outlets on a desk, provided the household runs on Alexa. Each of its six outlets switches independently or in groups from the Alexa app, with schedules and routines, so the monitor, lamp and printer can follow an office-hours routine while the computer outlet stays on. Two USB-A ports and a USB-C port charge a phone and a headset. Setup is plug in and add in the app, with no hub. Hundreds of owners give it a solid owner rating, the lowest of the smart strips here; the reviews that pull it down are about Wi-Fi drops on busy 2.4 GHz networks and about the Alexa lock-in. That lock-in is the main caution: it does not work with Google Home, Apple Home or Matter, so a mixed household should choose the Tapo P316M instead. Amazon also publishes no surge rating, so keep the PC on a rated strip. For an Alexa home it is good value.

Pros
  • Six individually switched outlets at the lowest smart-strip price here
  • Hundreds of owner reviews with a solid owner rating
  • Hub-free Alexa setup takes minutes
  • USB-C port included
Cons
  • Alexa only: no Google Home, Apple Home or Matter
  • No surge rating published
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only

Flat Plug Power Strip with USB Ports - 4 AC and 4 USB Ports (20W), 6Ft Extension Cord with Multiple Outlets, Fast USB Charging Station for Travel Office Dorm Room (Black)
Outlets4 wide-spaced AC, 1850 WUSB3 USB-A and 1 USB-C PD 20 WPlug0.3 in ultra-thin 45-degree flat plugCord6 ftSize3.2 x 2.9 x 1.1 inchesSafetyETL, FCC and RoHS; protection against voltage spikes

The VPSUN is the strip to choose when the desk sits hard against the wall and a normal plug will not fit. Its 0.3 inch flat plug comes out of the socket at 45 degrees and hugs the wall, the six-foot cord reaches the desk, and the compact body carries four wide-spaced AC outlets rated at 1850 watts plus three USB-A ports and a 20 watt USB-C Power Delivery port. It is ETL, FCC and RoHS certified and the maker lists protection against voltage spikes. Owners give it a strong owner rating, but it has only just over a hundred reviews, which is why it sits here rather than higher. The spike protection carries no joule figure, so it is a desk strip rather than a PC surge protector; the body is light enough to slide when a stiff cable tugs it, so a strip of adhesive tape underneath helps. For the flat-plug problem alone it is the pick, and it is also small enough for a travel bag.

Pros
  • Flat plug fits behind a desk pushed to the wall
  • Four wide-spaced outlets take adapters side by side
  • USB-C PD 20 W
  • Strong owner rating
Cons
  • Just over a hundred owner reviews so far
  • Spike protection is unspecified; no joule figure
  • Small body slides around on a desk

Belkin 70W GaN 7 in 1 Charging Station, 3X AC, 2X USB A, and 2X USB C Ports
Outlets3 ACUSB2 USB-C and 2 USB-A, 70 W total GaN with Programmable Power SupplyLaptop chargingMacBook Pro M4 to 50 percent in about 41 minutes (maker claim)Cord5 ft with flat 90-degree plugSafetyTUV certified, flame-resistant; over-voltage, short-circuit and over-current protectionBrandBelkin

The Belkin is here because it is the one strip that charges a laptop properly. Its two USB-C ports share 70 watts of GaN output with Programmable Power Supply, enough to take a MacBook Pro or a USB-C Windows laptop from empty to half in about forty minutes by Belkin’s figure, and two USB-A ports handle the phone and headset. Three AC outlets cover a monitor and a lamp, the five-foot cord ends in a flat 90-degree plug, and the housing is TUV certified and flame resistant with over-voltage, short-circuit and over-current protection. Owners give it a strong owner rating, but it is a new listing with the fewest reviews on this page, which is the only reason it is not ranked higher. Three AC outlets is tight for a full desk, so pair it with the Tagzilo tower or the NUOZHI, and Belkin publishes no joule rating, so it is a charging station rather than a surge protector. If the goal is one strip that replaces the laptop brick, this is it.

Pros
  • 70 W USB-C charges a laptop without its own brick
  • Belkin build and TUV certification
  • Three AC plus four USB in a flat-plug strip
  • Strong owner rating
Cons
  • Fewest owner reviews on this page
  • Three AC outlets only
  • No stated surge rating in joules

Surge protection: what the desk actually needs

Only two strips on this page state surge protection the way a computer deserves: the Tagzilo tower at 1800 joules and the Tapo P316M, which TP-Link describes as surge protecting all six outlets. The NUOZHI has none by design. The others list over-voltage, over-current or spike protection without a joule rating, which means they will trip on a fault but are not designed to absorb a lightning-induced surge. The sensible layout for a home office is two strips: a rated surge protector for the desktop PC, monitors and anything with a hard drive, and an unrated strip or charging hub for the lamp, phone, headset and printer. If your area gets storms, add the UPS from our charging-station guide for the computer and router; a surge strip buys time, a UPS buys a clean shutdown.

USB-C: phone speed or laptop speed?

Every strip here has USB-C, but the wattage decides what it can charge. The NUOZHI port is 15 watts and the Tapo P306 is 18 watts, which is phone and earbud territory. The Tagzilo, the 4AC 6-USB extender and the VPSUN offer 20 watt Power Delivery, enough to fast-charge any phone and trickle a tablet. Only the Belkin, at 70 watts shared across two USB-C ports, charges a laptop at a useful rate, and only when one port is in use; plug a phone into the second port and the laptop share drops. If you want to retire the laptop brick, buy the Belkin; if you only want the phone to charge on the desk, any of the 20 watt strips will do and leave more outlets free.

Smart control and who it suits

A smart strip earns its place when the desk has things that should switch off on a schedule: a monitor, a lamp, a printer that otherwise sits warm all night, a speaker. The Tapo P316M is the most complete, with per-outlet metering and Matter so it works whatever phone or speaker the household uses. The Tapo P306 does the same from the wall with HomeKit support and no cord. The Amazon Basics strip is the cheapest route to six switched outlets but only inside Alexa. Keep the computer and the router on always-on outlets or a plain surge strip; a scheduled outlet that cuts power to a PC mid-update is a worse problem than a lamp left on, and the Tapo P306 is designed around exactly that split with its three always-on sockets.

Do I need surge protection for a home office?

For a desktop computer, monitors and anything with storage, yes. The Tagzilo tower is rated at 1800 joules and the Tapo P316M is surge protected. Chargers, lamps and printers can live on an unrated strip such as the NUOZHI or the 4AC 6-USB extender.

Which power strip can charge a laptop over USB-C?

Only the Belkin 70W GaN, with two USB-C ports sharing 70 watts. The other strips offer 15 to 20 watt USB-C, which charges phones and tablets but not laptops at a useful rate.

Can I plug a power strip into another power strip?

Avoid it. Daisy-chaining strips can exceed the wall outlet rating and voids most warranties. Use one strip with enough outlets, such as the Tagzilo tower, or a wall extender like the Tapo P306, and keep the total load under the strip rating.

Which smart power strip works with Apple Home and Google Home?

The Tapo P316M is Matter certified and works with Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and SmartThings. The Tapo P306 supports HomeKit, Alexa and Google. The Amazon Basics strip works with Alexa only.

How long a cord do I need?

Measure from the wall outlet to where the strip will sit. The Tagzilo has a 10 foot cord, the NUOZHI and VPSUN 6 feet, the 4AC extender and Belkin 5 feet, and the Tapo P316M only 3 feet. The Tapo P306 has no cord and plugs into the wall.
