Half the small electronics in a house run on 12 volts DC: routers, security cameras, LED strips, monitors, speakers, keyboards, baby monitors and the little black bricks that power them are the first thing to go missing or fail. A replacement 12V adapter costs a fraction of the device, but only if you match three things: the voltage, enough current (amps), and the barrel plug size and polarity. We ranked the 12V AC-to-DC adapters in our accessories catalog by how much current they deliver, whether the voltage is fixed or selectable, how many plug tips come in the box, safety certification, cord length, and what thousands of owners say after plugging them into real routers, cameras and light strips.
We have not bench-tested these supplies ourselves; the verdicts rest on the published spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. If the brick you are replacing powers a laptop rather than a 12V gadget, see our replacement laptop chargers and AC adapters guide instead, and if you are running out of outlets for all these bricks, our power strips with USB ports guide helps.
How we picked
- Regulated output. Every pick is a switching supply with over-voltage, over-current, short-circuit and thermal protection, so a 12V label means 12V under load.
- Current headroom. We note the maximum amps for each and recommend buying at least 20 percent above what the device draws.
- Tips and polarity. Universal picks include eight interchangeable barrel plugs; fixed picks use the common 5.5 x 2.1mm or 5.5 x 2.5mm plug, center positive, and we flag the one that is sold in a multi-pack.
- Certification where stated. UL or ETL listing is called out when the maker claims it.
- Owner ratings of 4.2 stars or better, every pick with more than 3,000 reviews.
The picks
SoulBay 12V Power Supply Universal AC DC Adapter Charger with Adjustable Output 5V 9V 3V 6V 4.5V 7.5V 12 Volt 1A 1.5A 2A for LED Strip Light CCTV Camera BT Speaker GPS Webcam Router, 5 FT Cord, 30W

The SoulBay 30W is the universal adapter most people buy, and 13,500 reviews make it the reference point for this whole category. A selector key switches it between seven voltages from 3V to 12V, it supplies up to 2A at any of them, and the eight barrel tips cover routers, LED strips, CCTV cameras, small fans, keyboards and most old chargers. The cord is a usable 5 feet. SoulBay is unusually blunt in its listing about what goes wrong: almost every one-star review is a device that needed center-negative polarity, more than 2A, or a voltage the buyer did not check, which is why the score is 4.2 rather than higher. Set the voltage before you plug in, confirm the plus sign on your device label points to the center pin, and it is the one brick that replaces all the others.
- 13,500 owner reviews, the most-trusted adapter here
- Replaces a drawer of 3V to 12V bricks with one unit
- 2A output handles routers, cameras and speakers
- Quad protection and a smart chip
- 4.2 stars: most complaints are wrong voltage or wrong polarity by the buyer
- No USB-C tip
- Not for laptops, ice machines or anything over 2A
ZOZO Universal AC/DC Adapter 12W 3V 4.5V 5V 6V 7.5V 9V 12V Switching Power Supply Charger with 8 Tips 5.5x2.1mm 5.5x2.5mm Micro USB for Routers Speakers CCTV Cameras LED Strip Lights

The ZOZO 12W is the cheaper universal for low-draw gadgets: the same seven voltages from 3V to 12V as the SoulBay, eight interchangeable tips plus a Micro-USB plug, and a 5-foot cord, but capped at 1A. That is enough for a clock radio, a small speaker, a scale, a desk lamp, a toy or an older cordless-phone base, and not enough for most Wi-Fi routers, cameras with infrared LEDs or anything that spins a motor, which is where the 1A picks pick up their one-star reviews. ZOZO is clear about that in the listing and about the center-positive polarity. More than 10,000 owners rate it 4.2 stars. If your device label says 1A or less and you want the Micro-USB tip, buy this one; otherwise spend a little more on the 2A SoulBay.
- 10,000 owners and the lowest price of the universals
- Includes a Micro-USB tip
- Covers seven voltages for small gadgets
- Light and compact
- 1A limit rules out most routers and cameras
- 4.2 stars with the same wrong-voltage complaints
- Plastic selector feels cheap
Belker 12W Universal 3V 4.5V 5V 6V 7.5V 9V 12V AC DC Adapter with 8 Tips

Belker is the brand that owners of this category rate highest, and its 12W universal earns 4.4 stars from 7,100 reviews, the best score of any selectable adapter here. It does the same job as the ZOZO: seven voltages from 3V to 12V set by a small key, 1A maximum, eight tips including Micro-USB, center-positive polarity. What sets Belker apart is the ecosystem: it sells a polarity-reversed cable for the minority of devices that need center-negative, so you are not stuck if your gadget is the odd one out. Build quality is a notch better than the cheapest universals according to owners. The same 1A ceiling applies, so it is for small electronics rather than routers, and Belker makes a 24W, 36W and 45W version if you need more current.
- 4.4 stars from 7,100 owners, the best score of the universals
- Belker sells a polarity-reversed cable for center-negative devices
- Simple key-switch voltage selector
- Includes Micro-USB tip
- 1A maximum, same as the ZOZO
- Only two product photos in the listing
- Not for devices drawing more than 12W
SoulBay 24W Universal AC/DC Adapter 12V 9V 7.5V 6V 5V 4.5V 3V Regulated Switching Power Supply with 8 Selectable Plugs for LED Strip Light Camera Keyboard Speaker Scale Recorder Massager, 2A Output

The 24W SoulBay is the one to buy if the adapter will be moved around or if a child or a vacuum cleaner might nudge the selector: its voltage switch locks, so a 5V speaker cannot suddenly receive 12V. It supplies 2A at every setting from 3V to 12V, and the eight tips include an LED strip terminal and a Micro-USB plug alongside the six common barrel sizes, which SoulBay lists by exact dimension so you can match your device before buying. Protections cover over-voltage, over-current, short circuit and heat. At 12V the 2A limit means about 24W, enough for a short LED strip, a camera, a keyboard or a scale but not for a long run of lights. It has 7,400 reviews at 4.3 stars, and the troubleshooting section of the listing is worth reading before you plug anything in.
- Voltage lock stops the selector being knocked to the wrong setting
- 2A output at every voltage
- LED strip terminal connector included
- 7,400 owners at 4.3 stars
- 2A at 12V is 24W, so it is for strips under about 2 metres
- Same polarity caveat as every universal
- Lock mechanism is small and fiddly
12V 2A Power Supply AC Adapter Replacement with 8 Tips, Regulated 12 Volts 2000mA Cord Charger for LED Strip Light, CCTV Camera, GPS, Webcam, Router, BT Speaker DC12V Transformer (6ft)

If you already know the device needs 12V, a fixed adapter removes the single biggest source of failure in this category, the wrong voltage. This 12V 2A supply has no selector at all, delivers a regulated 2A through a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug that also fits 2.5mm sockets, and still ships with eight tips so it fits the odd router or camera with a smaller barrel. The cord is 6 feet, the longest on this page, which matters when the camera is on a ceiling. The supply adjusts its current to the device, so a 500mA webcam is as safe as a 2A router. It is unbranded and 4,600 owners rate it 4.4 stars; the complaints are mostly people who needed 5V or 9V and should have bought a universal.
- Fixed 12V means no selector to get wrong
- Eight tips still fit most 12V gadgets
- Longest cord here at 6 feet
- 4,600 owners at 4.4 stars
- 12V only; useless for 5V or 9V devices
- 2A ceiling
- Unbranded, so support is the Amazon return window
JC TECH(UL-Listed) 12V 1 AMP Power Adapter LED Power Supply 110V AC to 12V DC Transformer Lighting Power Adapter for LED Strip Lights, IP Phone, CCTV Camera, and Low Voltage Devices| 5 Pack - Black

The JC TECH five-pack is the pick for anyone wiring up several 12V devices at once: a set of security cameras, a row of short LED strips, an IP phone and a couple of small accessories. Each adapter is a fixed 12V at 1A with a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug and a tight 11.4V to 12.6V regulation window, and the whole thing is UL listed with the certificate number in the listing, which is rare at this price and reassuring for supplies that run around the clock behind furniture. Owners rate it 4.6 stars from 3,800 reviews, the highest on this page. The limits are a 1A ceiling, so it is not a router supply, and a 56-inch cord that is shorter than the others. Buy it when you need five reliable 12W bricks, not one powerful one.
- UL listed, which almost no cheap adapter here can claim
- Five adapters for a camera system or several LED strips
- 4.6 stars from 3,800 owners, the best score on the page
- Tight 11.4V to 12.6V regulation
- 1A only; not for routers or larger strips
- Short 56-inch cord
- Single tip, no adapters
12V 5A Power Supply, Waysse AC DC Adapter, Converter 100-240V to 12 Volt 5 Amp Transformer 5.5x2.1mm Plug for LED Strip Light DVR NVR Security Cameras System

Once a 12V load passes 2A you need a laptop-style brick, and the Waysse 12V 5A is the budget one owners trust: 60W through a 5.5 x 2.5mm plug that also fits the common 2.1mm socket, with overload, over-voltage, thermal and short-circuit cut-offs. Sixty watts covers a 5-metre strip of 5050 LEDs, a four-channel DVR or NVR with its cameras, a 3D printer board or a powered USB hub. Waysse includes two power cords and a one-year warranty, and the listing is careful to say it is not a laptop charger even though it looks like one. It runs warm at full load, as any fan-less 60W brick does, so give it some air. It has 3,100 reviews at 4.4 stars, most from LED strip and camera system owners.
- 60W runs a full 5-metre LED strip or an NVR
- Two power cords in the box
- One-year warranty
- 3,100 owners at 4.4 stars
- Larger laptop-style brick
- Not a universal laptop charger despite the look
- Fan-less, so it runs warm at 5A
ALITOVE 12V Power Supply 10A 120W AC Adapter 100-240V 50-60HZ Transformer AC to DC Converter 12 Volt 10 Amp with 5.5x2.5mm Output Jack for 5050 3528 LED Strip Light CCTV Cameras 3D Printer

The ALITOVE 12V 10A is the adapter for jobs that would otherwise need a bare metal power supply: a 10-metre LED run, a 3D printer, a 12V ham transceiver, a car amplifier on a bench, or a whole camera system from one brick. It delivers up to 120W through a 5.5 x 2.5mm plug, with the same four protections as the Waysse and an output that ALITOVE says does not fluctuate at power on or off, which matters for electronics that reset on a dip. The listing asks you to confirm the device is 12V, draws 10A or less and has a matching jack before buying, and recommends running at 80 percent, about 8A, for a long life. It is a large brick for indoor use only. Owners rate it 4.5 stars from 4,600 reviews.
- 120W, the most current on this page
- Replaces an open-frame supply for LED and 3D printer projects
- Stable output with no fluctuation at power on and off
- 4,600 owners at 4.5 stars
- Big and heavy for a wall-plug replacement
- ALITOVE recommends staying under 8A continuous
- Indoor only

Match the three numbers on the label
Every powered device has a label listing its input: a voltage, a current and a polarity symbol. The voltage must match exactly; 12V into a 9V speaker destroys it. The adapter current must equal or exceed what the device needs; a 2A adapter is safe for a 0.5A camera, but a 1A adapter on a 2A router will overheat and reset. All eight picks are center positive, which covers the vast majority of consumer electronics, and Belker sells a reversing cable for the exceptions. Get those three right and the plug size is the only thing left to check.
Universal or fixed?
A universal adapter with a selector is the right buy for a drawer of orphaned gadgets and for anything you are not sure about; the SoulBay, ZOZO and Belker picks replace a dozen different bricks. The risk is the selector itself: set it wrong and you cook the device, which is why the locking SoulBay 24W exists and why so many one-star reviews in this category are user error. A fixed 12V adapter has no selector to get wrong and is the better choice for a device that stays plugged in for years: a router, a camera, an LED strip under a cabinet. Above 2A there is no universal option anyway; the Waysse 5A and ALITOVE 10A are fixed 12V bricks for the heavy loads.
Sizing an adapter for LED strips and cameras
A 12V LED strip draws roughly 1A to 1.5A per metre for standard 5050 LEDs at full brightness, so a 2-metre strip wants the 2A picks, a 5-metre reel the 5A Waysse, and anything longer the 10A ALITOVE. Security cameras draw about 0.5A each in daylight and up to 1A with infrared on at night, so one JC TECH 1A adapter per camera is right, or a 5A brick for a four-camera NVR. Routers are typically 1A to 2A and are the main reason to skip the 1A universals. Our wired security cameras guide covers cameras that use these supplies.
Can I use a 12V 2A adapter on a device that says 12V 1A?
Yes. The device only draws the current it needs, so a higher-amp adapter is safe and runs cooler. The reverse, a 1A adapter on a 2A device, will overheat and the device will reset or fail to start.
What does center positive mean?
The inner pin of the barrel plug carries the positive voltage and the outer sleeve is negative. The device label shows a symbol with a plus sign pointing to a dot in the middle. All eight picks here are center positive.
Which plug size do most 12V devices use?
The 5.5 x 2.1mm barrel is the most common, followed by 5.5 x 2.5mm, and the two fit each other with a slightly loose connection. Smaller 4.0 x 1.7mm and 3.5 x 1.35mm plugs appear on cameras and small speakers, which is why the universal picks ship with eight tips.
Are these adapters safe to leave plugged in all the time?
They are switching supplies with thermal and short-circuit protection and are designed for continuous use. The JC TECH pack is UL listed, which is the strongest safety claim on this page; give the 5A and 10A bricks some air because they run warm at full load.
Why does my universal adapter not work with my device?
The three usual causes are the selector set to the wrong voltage, the device needing center-negative polarity, or the device drawing more than the adapter can supply. Check the label on the device and compare it to the adapter settings before assuming either is faulty.
