Best Power Strips with USB Ports in 2026: 5 Surge Protectors, Outlet Extenders and a Cruise-Safe Strip

QINLIANF 5-outlet wall extender, YISHU 8-outlet strip, One Beat travel strip, Alestor 12-outlet 2700 J strip and HHSOET metal 8-outlet compared on outlets, USB and surge rating.

Our top pickWall Charger, Surge Protector, QINLIANF …9.4Our score

A power strip is the cheapest fix for a desk, nightstand or dorm room that has two outlets and eight things to plug in. The modern version adds USB-A and USB-C ports so phone bricks stop eating outlets, and the good ones add surge protection rated in joules, wide-spaced sockets for fat adapters and an ETL listing. The decisions are how many outlets you need, whether you want it on the wall or on a cord, and whether surge protection is allowed where you are taking it, because cruise ships ban it.

We went through the 49 power strips in our accessories catalog and kept five with at least 2,700 owner ratings and a 4.6-star average or better. This is a comparison of listed specifications and owner reviews, not an electrical test; we did not load these strips ourselves. Prices are not printed because they change daily, and every button opens the live Amazon page.

How we picked

  • Owner ratings of 4.6 stars or higher with at least 2,700 ratings each, and three of the five above 19,000. A power strip is a safety product, so a long record of satisfied owners counts for more than a feature list.
  • USB ports on every pick. Each strip here has built-in USB-A ports, and four of the five add at least one USB-C port.
  • ETL-listed. Every listing on this page states ETL certification.
  • Five different jobs. A wall-mounted extender, a corded strip for a desk, a cruise-safe travel strip, a 12-outlet strip for a home office, and a metal strip for a workshop or standing desk.
  • Surge rating and spacing from the listing. Joules, outlet spacing, cord length and USB output are quoted exactly as each maker states them.

The picks

Wall Charger, Surge Protector, QINLIANF 5 Outlet Extender with 4 USB Ports
Outlets5 AC on three sides, 2.1 in apartUSB3 x USB-A (5 V/2.4 A max each), 1 x USB-C (5 V/3 A max)Surge rating1,680 joules, with Protected indicatorMountingScrews to a duplex wall outletRating15 A, 125 VWarranty1 year

The QINLIANF is the outlet extender that replaced the cord-and-strip for a lot of people. It plugs into both halves of a duplex outlet and a center screw fixes it to the faceplate, so yanking a plug does not pull the whole block out of the wall. You get five AC sockets spread over three sides with 2.1 inches between them, more than the usual 1.5, and four USB ports: three USB-A at up to 2.4 A each and one USB-C at 5 V and 3 A. The surge circuit is rated at 1,680 joules with a Protected indicator light, the unit is ETL-certified and the warranty is one year.

Owners rate it 4.7 stars across more than 118,000 ratings, which is the largest review base of any power product in our catalog. The two limits are in the listing: it mounts to standard duplex outlets only, not GFCI outlets or multi-gang plates, and the USB-C port is plain 5-volt charging rather than the 9-volt and up that fast-charging phones ask for.

Pros
  • 118,000+ owner ratings at 4.7 stars, the most of any power strip we track
  • Screws to the outlet plate so it cannot be pulled off the wall
  • 2.1-inch socket spacing fits wall-wart adapters without blocking neighbors
  • No cord, so nothing to trip over behind a nightstand or desk
Cons
  • Fits duplex outlets only; the listing says GFCI outlets cannot be secured
  • The USB-C port is 5 V/3 A, not a fast-charge PD port

Best corded strip for a desk

YISHU 6Ft Surge Protector Power Strip with 8 Widely Outlets & 4 USB Ports

4.6 · 53,543 ratings
9.2Our score
YISHU 6Ft Surge Protector Power Strip with 8 Widely Outlets & 4 USB Ports
Outlets8 AC on three sides, 1.8 in apartUSB3 x USB-A (5 V/2.4 A max each), 1 x USB-C (5 V/3 A max)Surge rating900 joulesCord6 ft with 45-degree flat plugRating10 A, 125 V; on/off switchWarranty1 year

The YISHU is a small cube on a six-foot cord that turns one outlet into eight sockets and four USB ports. The sockets sit on three faces with 1.8 inches between them, so a couple of chunky adapters do not cover their neighbors, and the plug is a 45-degree flat design that lets a bed or sofa sit tight against the wall. The strip has a lit on/off switch, two keyhole slots on the back for mounting, and a protection list that includes overload, short-circuit, over-current, over-voltage and overheating. The surge rating is 900 joules.

With more than 53,000 ratings at 4.6 stars, it is the second most-reviewed strip in our catalog. Owners talk about snaking the cord under furniture to bring an outlet within reach and about charging phones from the USB-C port without a brick. The 10-amp rating is lower than the 15 amps of the Alestor and HHSOET below, so treat it as a strip for electronics, lamps and chargers rather than space heaters.

Pros
  • Twelve devices at once from one wall outlet: 8 AC plus 4 USB
  • Flat plug sits flush behind furniture and the 6-foot cord reaches a desk
  • Cube shape with sockets on three sides keeps big adapters from overlapping
  • Overload, short-circuit, over-current, over-voltage and overheating protection listed
Cons
  • 900 joules is the lowest surge rating of the protected strips here
  • 10 A maximum, so keep heaters and other high-draw appliances off it

Best for cruises and travel

One Beat Power Strip with USB C, 3 Outlets 4 USB Ports (3.1A),6ft

One Beat Power Strip with USB C, 3 Outlets 4 USB Ports (3.1A),6ft
Outlets3 ACUSB2 x USB-A (5 V/2.4 A max), 2 x USB-C (5 V/3 A max); 15.5 W sharedSurge ratingNone, by design (cruise-approved)CordBraided, flat plugSize4.3 x 4.6 x 1.1 inWarranty1 year

Cruise lines confiscate surge protectors at the gangway, and the One Beat exists for that reason: it is a non-surge power strip with three AC sockets and four USB ports, two of them USB-C, in a block about 4.3 by 4.6 inches that weighs next to nothing. The plug is flat so it sits flush in a cabin outlet, the cord is braided, and the maker lists ETL and FCC certification, a 1,382-degree fire-resistant shell and over-current and short-circuit protection. The USB side delivers 5 volts at up to 3 A on the USB-C ports and 2.4 A on USB-A, with 15.5 watts shared across all four.

Owners rate it 4.8 stars across more than 28,900 ratings, the best average on this page. It also makes a tidy nightstand strip at home. The trade is capacity: three AC sockets and a shared USB budget mean it charges a phone, a watch and a pair of earbuds comfortably but is not a desk strip for a monitor, PC and printer.

Pros
  • No surge protection, which is the rule for cruise cabins
  • Two USB-C ports plus two USB-A in a block that fits a carry-on pocket
  • 4.8 stars across 28,900+ ratings, the highest average here
  • ETL and FCC listed with over-current and short-circuit protection
Cons
  • Only three AC outlets
  • All four USB ports share 15.5 W, so one phone charges quickly and four charge slowly

ALESTOR 6 Ft Surge Protector Power Strip with 12 Outlets and 4 USB Ports
Outlets12 AC: 2 wide-spaced (2 in) plus 10 standardUSB3 x USB-A (2.4 A max each), 1 x USB-C (3 A max)Surge rating2,700 joules, with Protected indicatorCord6 ft heavy-dutyRating15 A, 125 VWarranty2 years

The Alestor is the strip for the desk with a PC, two monitors, a printer, a lamp, speakers and a router all needing power. Twelve AC sockets run down an 11-inch bar, two of them spaced two inches apart for large adapters, and four USB ports sit at the end with the USB-C at up to 3 A. The surge rating is 2,700 joules, the highest here, behind a Protected light, and an over-current switch limits the working current so the strip does not heat up. It is ETL-listed, the shell is fire-resistant to 1,382 degrees and the cord is a six-foot heavy-duty lead rated for 15 amps.

Owners rate it 4.8 stars across more than 19,800 ratings and describe replacing piles of charging bricks with the built-in USB ports. The one planning note is that ten of the twelve sockets use standard spacing, so put the fat adapters in the two wide slots and the plain plugs everywhere else.

Pros
  • 2,700 joules, the highest surge rating of the five
  • Sixteen devices from one outlet: 12 AC and 4 USB
  • Over-current protection switch and a flame-retardant shell
  • Two-year warranty and 4.8 stars across 19,800+ ratings
Cons
  • At 11 inches long it needs real desk or floor space
  • Only two of the twelve sockets are wide-spaced for big adapters

Best metal strip for workshops and standing desks

HHSOET Heavy Duty Long 8 Outlets, 14AWG Extension Cord, Black, 6FT, 1

HHSOET Heavy Duty Long 8 Outlets, 14AWG Extension Cord, Black, 6FT, 1
Outlets8 AC, wide-spaced, in a metal housingSurge rating1,200 joules (MOV module)Cord6 ft, 14 AWGRating15 A, 125 V, 1,875 W; lit switchMountingScrew holes with 4 screws includedWarranty1 year

The HHSOET is the strip to bolt somewhere. Its housing is metal, the eight wide-spaced sockets run along a 17-inch bar, and four screws come in the box so it can be fixed under a standing desk, on a workshop wall or to the back of a bench. The cord is six feet of 14 AWG wire, heavier than the typical strip lead, and the unit is rated for the full 15 amps and 1,875 watts with a 1,200-joule MOV surge module and a lit on/off switch. The maker lists SGS certification and sells other cord lengths of the same strip.

Owners rate it 4.7 stars across more than 2,700 ratings. It is the only pick here without USB ports, which is why it sits last on a page about USB strips, but it is also the only one you would trust under a miter saw or behind a motorized desk. If you want a 12-outlet version, the same brand sells a rotating-outlet metal strip at the same surge rating.

Pros
  • Metal shell and a 14-gauge cord built for garages, workshops and tool benches
  • Mounts flat under a standing desk or on a wall with the included screws
  • Full 15 A / 1,875 W rating with 1,200 J surge protection and a switch
  • 4.7 stars across 2,700+ ratings
Cons
  • No USB ports on this version, unlike the other four picks
  • Metal housing is heavier than plastic strips

What to look for in a power strip

Joules are the surge budget. The rating tells you how much surge energy the strip can absorb over its life before the protection wears out; higher is better and the number drops with each hit. The Alestor’s 2,700 J is a home-office figure, the QINLIANF’s 1,680 J and HHSOET’s 1,200 J are solid, and the YISHU’s 900 J is enough for lamps, chargers and a laptop. Look for a Protected light, which goes out when the surge circuit is spent.

Check the amp rating before plugging in appliances. Most strips are rated for 15 A and 1,875 W, which covers a desk full of electronics. The YISHU is rated at 10 A, so keep space heaters, hair dryers and kettles on a wall outlet.

USB-C at 5 V is not fast charging. The USB-C ports on these strips put out 5 volts at up to 3 A, which the QINLIANF listing says outright is not Quick Charge. That is fine for overnight phone charging and earbuds. For a laptop or a phone at full speed, you want a dedicated USB-C charger plugged into one of the AC sockets.

Spacing beats socket count. Eight sockets 1.5 inches apart fit four adapters. The QINLIANF’s 2.1-inch and the Alestor’s two 2-inch slots are where the wall warts go.

Cruise ships and some dorms ban surge protection. A strip with a surge circuit can be confiscated at boarding. The One Beat is built without one for that reason; check your cruise line or housing rules before packing anything else.

Mount it if you can. The QINLIANF screws to the outlet, the YISHU and HHSOET have mounting holes, and a mounted strip never ends up on the floor collecting dust.

For charging bricks and multi-device docks to pair with these strips, see our charging station guide and the accessories catalog.

What joule rating do I need for a surge protector?

For a desk with a computer and monitors, 2,000 joules or more is a comfortable figure; the Alestor is rated at 2,700 J. For lamps, phone chargers and a TV, 900 to 1,700 J (YISHU, QINLIANF, HHSOET) is plenty. The rating is a lifetime budget that shrinks with every surge, so a Protected indicator light is worth having.

Can I take a power strip on a cruise ship?

Only one without surge protection. Cruise lines prohibit surge-protected strips in cabins. The One Beat strip on this page is built without surge protection and marketed as cruise-approved; the other four picks all have surge circuits.

Do the USB-C ports on a power strip fast-charge a phone?

No. The USB-C ports on these strips supply 5 V at up to 3 A, about 15 W, which charges a phone at normal speed and is not Power Delivery or Quick Charge. Use a dedicated USB-C wall charger in one of the AC sockets for fast charging.

Is it safe to plug a space heater into a power strip?

Manufacturers and fire departments advise against it. Heaters draw close to the full 15 A of a circuit, and the YISHU strip here is rated at only 10 A. Plug heaters, hair dryers and kettles directly into a wall outlet.

What is the difference between a power strip and an outlet extender?

An outlet extender such as the QINLIANF plugs directly into a wall outlet and often screws to the faceplate, with no cord. A power strip such as the YISHU or Alestor sits on a cord and can reach a desk or the back of a sofa. Both can include surge protection and USB ports.

Bottom line

Put the QINLIANF 5-outlet extender on the wall behind the nightstand or desk and you get five sockets and four USB ports with a 1,680-joule surge rating and the longest review record of any strip we track. Run the YISHU 8-outlet strip when the outlet is behind furniture and you need a cord, pack the One Beat for a cruise or hotel, buy the Alestor 12-outlet strip for a full home office with its 2,700-joule rating and two-year warranty, and screw the HHSOET metal strip under a workbench or standing desk.
