Best kitchen purchase in years - hands down! After years of dealing with low end blenders and mediocre results we splurged on this beast about 6 weeks ago. Day one and we were making hot soups and smoothies. I was skeptical that soup would come out hot but it did. Smoothies are fantastic. We are having a blast experimenting with new formulas. I loved the blender and how it made all kind of smoothies and hot soups, it was silent compare to other blender.But for a $1000 you would expect this blender to last like 10 years at least, right? Wrong! Mine started to smoke and it is a fire hazard now. I want my money back, not worth the price!

Although quite expensive, I'm loving our new Blendtec, a gift from my husband. I've had an old, basic model for 7 years that I used almost daily for a morning smoothie, and it's still working. However it didn't have the cover and was extremely loud. We would plug our ears or leave the room while it was running. This version is so much quieter with the cover. My main complaint is that cover use restricts placement in the kitchen, because when the lid is lifted it hits the cabinet above, and the machine is heavy to move. I make a smoothie for my wife and myself every weekday morning. Our old Target blender was so loud you couldn't think clearly if you were in the same room. I took a gamble on this and won! It isn't silent. I suspect no blender is. But, it is way, way quieter than any blender I've ever been around. The enclosure makes a huge difference. And it looks like an operating suite inside. After having the blender for six months I feel confident in writing a review. The blender is quiet, powerful, and easy to use and clean. When I got it I noticed the blade was ever so slightly off level. I also noticed the Teflon seal was ever so slightly bulging. During operation a few drops of liquid would be spattered under the jar. I figured this was noormal and didn't think much of it. After four months it got to the point where liquid would leak out while the jar was sitting on the counter and the blade would wobble. It blends better than other blenders without overheating. This is an excellent combination of industrial quality with at-home use.It could still use better cooling ability, as it does overheat if I want to use it continuously. However, as long as I organize my prep time in between necessary blends, it still works efficiently.
