I’m very happy with this sewing machine! The setup was simple, and the numbered instructions made threading the machine and loading the bobbin easy to understand. It has a great selection of stitches and is easy to operate, even if you’re newer to sewing. I’ve already made an apron with it and love how it turned out. I was looking to buy a sewing machine for my granddaughter's birthday. I had purchased two cheaper beginner sewing machines but had to send both models back because the machines started sewing once they were turned on, even though the pedal was not being pressed down. This was a big safety issue. I really wanted to teach my granddaughter how to sew, so I bought the Brother CS5055 to try out for her. It is the perfect machine. It is easy to use and not too complicated to learn to sew with. There are many features that she will be able to use as her learning skills develop.

I purchased this to replace a very basic machine that I've been using for 40 years. The first thing that I noticed was that this feels light and cheap. It does not feel like this will last 40 years like my old Kenmore did. Everything is plastic, and that's not good. My old Brother sewing machine went kaput after around 30 years, so I figured I’d buy another Brother. It is really a great value, with features that frankly surprised me. There is even something called auto thread, but I haven’t tried it yet (I am really old school). The actual sewing mechanism is so much smoother than my old Brother. It really makes sewing almost a pleasure. I wish I hadn’t waited for my old one to die! Lastly, the value is incredible. I paid around the same for my old machine 30 years ago!!

I waited before I reviewed. I am very pleased with this machine so far. Only a couple of minor things that I didn't like. I would've like to have an up needle instead of hand cranking the the wheel to lift the needle, not a big deal, but it would be more nice with a up needle button to push instead. The other thing is the zipper foot is wobbly, but that's easy to remedy by getting a narrow zipper foot. Its not a heavy duty machine but for sewing mending quilting it's nice.

The sewing machine works great. It is easy to thread and the bobbin is easy to implement. It is a great little machine for the price. I am very happy with my purchase.
