I am in total love with this machine. I am a new sewer, started in September 2015. I've done a lot of sewing by hand and dabbled a bit in mini courses when I was in third grade back in 1973. The SQ-9285 is now made for the "All Mart" store line (you know the one). I've been using my Brother HC1859 sewing machine about a month now to sew sheer curtains and recently some heavy duty Phifertex Fabric for sling chairs, and it has worked like a champ, I was impressed, as this material really should be sewn on a more industrial heavy-duty machine. I had very few issues along the way, only once had the horrid "birds nest" (just had to re-thread the top, change the bobbin and needle). It replaced my 20-year old Singer machine that I could not get to work properly, despite only having used it very infrequently. I am on team Brother now. I love the bobbin setup -

I have only had my machine for about a month, but so far everything has been great. It came on time and was packaged nicely. Everything included in the description was in the box so no issue there. I have used it to sew a Christmas stocking and it managed to sew through several layers of cotton fabric and interfacing. The multiple speed options with the stop/start button and a foot peddle is great. I did not have to change the thread tension at all when I started sewing, although If I did need to it would be fairly easy. Changing the different feet was no issue, automatic threading worked well

I absolutely love this machine! I should clarify that I am no seamstress. I have always struggled with sewing machines that you try to get threaded correctly. Have you ever started to sew and the top looks wonderful but the bottom is all messed up and sloppy? Or you are sewing along and find that you aren't actually sewing real stitches, yes the needle is threaded and the bobbin thread is poking up... why isn't it sewing? Who knows? I bought this machine using credit card points (yippee!) which made it even more fun to receive at my door. Delivery was fast, and I received everything in the box as advertised. Although I haven't yet used and can't comment on every feature, I don't believe one can go wrong with this machine -- the price is right, it's packed with stitches, and it functions very well.
