My 15+ yrs. old Brother CS-8150 had just died on me, I researched many Brother models and even other brands, Brother Customer Service recommended this and two other models as a similar model as a replacement, and oh boy have they been right.I love the DVD that comes with it to watch closely a few tricks, especially the threading system, which is kind of tricky until you get used to it. This is the first sewing machine I have ever owned. At first, I was very intimidated to use it but it is so easy to use that the feeling of intimidation did not last very long. I have no other experiences with sewing machines to offer except to say that I am extremely happy with my choice. I love this sewing machine. Don't let the price scare you. I am not a beginner but far from an expert and this machine gives me everything I could ever want. I have had this machine for about 6 months now and have not had any problems. There are so many bells and whistles that I am sure that I will never use them all. But they are there if I decide too. I love this brother sewing machine. I've had it nearly a year now my last experience with a sewing machine was nearly 20 years ago when I was in middle school and I've not used one since until I bought the xr9550prw. The self threading for the needle (I've seen lots of complaints in reviews) can be difficult if you've never used one before it takes some getting used to, but now it works for me quite well.
