I have a Zojirushi rice cooker, but I wanted a rice cooker with a sauté function which the Zojirushi doesn't have. I had bought another brand with the sauté function, but it was a sauté/simmer function which meant the unit would sauté until liquid was added and it would automatically switch to the simmer function. For some recipes, this doesn't work. I tried cooking 2 cups of steel cut oats in this cooker, and it boiled to the top leaving dried oatmeal on the top of the cooker as well as clogging up the steam release. This thing is a life and time saver.There are so many options for cooking. I just throw in my oatmeal (not instant) push the oatmeal button and it cooks it to perfection. It is light and fluffy, and once you taste oatmeal out of here, you will never want microwaved or stovetop oatmeal again. Using the DIY mode you can set your own time and temp for slow cooking. You can brown things first, then add to the nice big 10 inch pot. Food cooks evenly and comes out so tender! Now, I was using my last one for 13 years, before I forgot the eye on the stove was hot and set my 10 in 1 on it and melted the bottom. Sad day. I ordered this one and I am still getting use to it. When cooking beans I notice when using slow cook it gets very hot and bubbles through the top, I may have had too much broth in it, but I did a DIY setting and worked perfectly. Review one year later- It works and cooks rice and meat beautifully! However, one year later, the clip that keeps it closed broke off and the buttons have that peel off texture and a smell tends to hang around after washing. I will be purchasing a new one shortly. Loved it, but wish the quality held up a little better.
