Oster CKSTPM20W-ECO DuraCeramic Panini Maker and Grill

I would rate this product at five stars except that I can't yet assess it's durability. For a few years I have been using essentially the same product marketed directly by Sunbeam which is the manufacturer of this Oster grill/panini maker. The difference between the Sunbeam I've been using and this Oster marketed grill is the grilling surface coating. The Sunbeam I used had a regular dark-colored teflon coating as opposed to the Oster's white "DuraCeramic" coating. I used great care in trying to preserve the Sunbeam's teflon but food did stick to it eventually requiring much effort to clean it

Bought ours during Christmas week and have used it several times. Everyone is quite satisfied with it and believe strongly that we got a good deal especially since we lucked out with the Christmas sale (ten bucks better than a week later) although we would have probably paid more if we knew what we know now re how well it operates and looks.First, we do not plan to grill anything greasy but we liked the feature of unlocking it to open it up and create two grill surfaces. Works very well. I bought this grille to replace a Teflon one. I loved my old Teflon grill but was not willing to continue taking the risk of all the harmful chemicals going into my food from the non-stick coating. This ceramic coating grill doesn't have the harmful chemicals and it is a TRUE NON-STICK. Works much better than Teflon. I've had it for over a month and use it almost everyday and am happy with how it works.There are a two things I didn't like, not big deals for me, but things for you may want to consider as you choose the grill that best suits your needs:1. I gave it 5 stars because it DOES a great job for the price! You will see other reviews that complain about its size (you can only do two sandwiches at a time), you have to use the little plastic spatula that comes with it to keep the sandwiches from sliding out the front when you press the top down, the top should have a higher vertical space for fat sandwiches, you have to play with the temperature setting for a given result, etc. These are all true. This is the first panini maker I have ever owned or used. 2 drip cups and a cleaning tool were supposed to be included. I received both drip cups but my cleaning tool was not included. Personally, it's not a huge deal but it would have been nice to receive everything listed. It also arrived with some chips already on the ceramic coating, and scratches on the top black part of the machine. It has short comings that are typical of a budget design - small cooking surface, low power (1200W), uncertain heat control, top does not come down parallel to the bottom (thus it tends to squeeze your food forward), and so on. In fact, forget about grilling. It does not have enough power to sear most food. The slow acting on/off mechanism makes searing even more difficult. I had a similar device that cost nearly 3 times as much and used coated aluminum plates, but soon the plates began to scratch and chip. Finally the top half didn't heat up at all so I threw it out. When I heard that this unit had advanced ceramic plates and only cost $30, I figured I didn't have much to lose by trying it. I am very impressed! It takes a few attempts to get the temperature and timing just right for your particular preferences, but the sandwiches come out looking and tasting great, plus nothing sticks to the ceramic plates. This is the perfect sized grill for two people! I love that i can throw all of my meats and veggies directly on this grill without having to fear the harsh PTFE's and PFOA's from traditional indoor grills. I also love that i can set the temperature i want to grill at. I wish that it had a latch so i can carry it in the lid closed position but it is very light. About the weight of the smallest George Forman grill but with much more grilling surface. It's about 8 pounds!
