Best Security Cameras Under 50 Dollars in 2026: Budget Indoor and Outdoor Picks Ranked by Owners

Eight budget security cameras under 50 at the time of writing, ranked by video, night vision, detection, storage and owner reviews: Tapo C200 and C120, Wyze Cam v4, wansview Q5, Kasa KC400, Cinnado.

Our top pickTP-Link Tapo Pan/Tilt Security Camera fo…9.0Our score

Fifty dollars buys a better security camera today than two hundred did five years ago: 2K video, color night vision, person detection on the camera, and a microSD slot so nothing is ever owed to a cloud. The catch is that the cheap end of the market is also where the no-name brands and the subscription traps live. We went through the most-reviewed cameras in our cameras catalog that were under 50 dollars when we checked, and ranked them by resolution, night vision, whether the smart alerts are free, how the clips are stored, indoor or outdoor rating, and what tens of thousands of owners report after months of use. None of them is a compromise you will regret.

We have not mounted every one of these ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily and several of these hover around the line, so every button opens the live Amazon page where you can see today’s number. If the budget stretches, our indoor security cameras and outdoor security cameras guides cover the next tier.

How we picked

  • Under 50 dollars at the time of writing, with most well under; prices move, so check the live page.
  • Local storage. A microSD slot on every pick, so recording and basic alerts cost nothing after the camera.
  • At least 1080p, mostly 2K. Seven of the eight are 2K or 2.5K; the one 1080p pick earns its place on its review history.
  • A long review history. Every pick has thousands of owners and six have more than 8,000.
  • Owner ratings of 4.0 stars or better, with 4.3 or higher on six of the eight.

The picks

WYZE Cam v4 (Latest Model), 2.5K AI Security Camera, Indoor/Outdoor Cameras for Home Security, Baby Monitor & Pet Camera, Vibrant Color Night Vision, No Subscription Required

The Wyze Cam v4 packs the most into a budget camera: 2.5K video at 2560 by 1440, a starlight sensor with a 72-lumen spotlight for color at night, a 100 dB siren, two-way talk and, the part that matters, AI on the camera that sorts people, packages, pets and vehicles without a subscription. It is rated IP65 and works from minus 4 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit, so the same camera suits a porch and a living room, though Wyze wants its outdoor power adapter for the former. Recording is continuous to a microSD card up to 512GB; Cam Plus adds cloud backup if you want it. It does not pan, which is why the Tapo C200 holds first for a room, but as a single do-anything camera it is the best value on the page. About 11,300 owners rate it 4.3 stars.

Pros
  • 2.5K video and color night vision under 50
  • On-device AI alerts with no plan
  • IP65 body works on a porch or in a nursery
  • 4.3 stars from about 11,300 owners
Cons
  • Outdoor use needs the outdoor power adapter
  • Cloud clip backup needs Cam Plus
  • Fixed lens

Best budget outdoor camera

Tapo 2K+ Indoor/Outdoor Wired Security Camera, Baby Monitoring, C120

Video2K QHD 4MPNight visionStarlight color with two spotlights, or invisible infraredDetectionFree person, pet and vehicle AIBodyIP66 with a magnetic baseStoragemicroSD or optional Tapo CarePowerPlug-in, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi

The C120 is the budget outdoor camera that is actually built for outdoors: IP66 rather than IP65, a magnetic base that clamps to a railing or a bracket, and the same free person, pet and vehicle detection as Tapo’s dearer cameras. Video is 2K at 4MP, the sharpest here alongside the Wyze, and night vision is color under two small spotlights or invisible infrared for a nursery. Clips go to a microSD card with Tapo Care as an option. PCMag gave it an Editors’ Choice for value in 2024 and about 5,400 owners rate it 4.4 stars. It sits third rather than second because it is fixed and because its price moves around the 50 line more than the others; when it dips, it is the best outdoor camera you can buy for the money. Our wired security cameras guide ranks it first overall.

Pros
  • IP66, a step up from the Wyze for weather
  • Magnetic base makes the install a cable run
  • 4MP 2K and free AI detection
  • 4.4 stars from about 5,400 owners
Cons
  • Fixed lens
  • Needs an outlet within cable reach
  • Hovers near the 50 line; check the live price

Video2K 3MP, 105-degree lensPan / tilt320-degree pan, 80-degree tiltNight visionInfraredDetectionMotion alerts with 10-second clipsStoragemicroSD or optional cloudExtrasTwo-way audio, Alexa, 2.4GHz

The wansview Q5 is what you buy when you want the Tapo C200’s pan-tilt and 2K as well, for less. It records 3MP video, pans 320 degrees and tilts 80, sees in the dark with infrared, talks both ways and shows up on Alexa screens. Motion alerts come with a ten-second clip, and recordings go to a microSD card or an optional cloud plan. It does not know a person from a pet and joins 2.4GHz only, like the Tapo, and its app is plainer, but about 38,000 owners rate it 4.3 stars, which is a track record nearly as long as the C200’s at a lower price. It is the pick for a second or third room once the first camera is bought.

Pros
  • About 38,000 owners at 4.3 stars
  • 2K and pan-tilt at well under half the budget
  • Alexa and two-way audio
  • Card and cloud both optional
Cons
  • Plain motion detection
  • 2.4GHz only
  • Infrared only

Best budget fixed indoor camera

If you do not need the camera to move, the Kasa KC400 is the best fixed indoor camera under the line. It is 2K with a 130-degree lens that takes in most of a room from a shelf, it detects people as well as motion and sound with no plan, and you can confine that to four activity zones so a window does not set it off every time a car passes. It records continuously or in clips to a microSD card up to 256GB. Because it is a Kasa device, a detected person can switch on a Kasa plug or bulb through Smart Actions, which is a cheap way to make an empty house look occupied. About 2,750 owners rate it 4.4 stars. It is indoor only and does not pan; the Tapo C120 is its outdoor sibling.

Pros
  • Person detection free on a budget camera
  • Four activity zones cut false alerts
  • Links to Kasa plugs and lights
  • 4.4 stars from about 2,750 owners
Cons
  • Fixed lens
  • 256GB card limit
  • Indoor only

Cheapest pan-tilt camera worth buying

Cinnado 2K Security Camera Indoor for Pet/Dog/Baby with Phone App, D1 1Pack

The Cinnado D1 is the cheapest camera on this page that we would still put in a house. For roughly a quarter of the budget it records 2K video, pans and tilts through 360 degrees, sounds a siren, talks both ways, streams to Alexa and Google screens and records continuously to a microSD card up to 128GB. The detection is plain motion, the night vision is infrared and the app is a white-label one, but about 8,000 owners rate it 4.3 stars, the same score as the wansview. Buy it for a garage interior, a pet room or a holiday let where the camera might walk, and spend the money saved on a bigger card. For the main camera in a home, the Tapo or wansview above have the longer record.

Pros
  • A 2K pan-tilt camera for about a quarter of the budget
  • Alexa and Google Assistant
  • 24/7 recording to a card
  • 4.3 stars from about 8,000 owners
Cons
  • Plain motion detection
  • Infrared only
  • 128GB card limit

Cheapest fixed camera worth buying

GNCC 2K Indoor Security Camera Dog Camera Motion Detection, C2

GNCC 2K Indoor Security Camera Dog Camera Motion Detection, C2
Video2KMountIncluded 3M tape; shelf or wallNight visionSix 850nm infrared LEDsDetectionMotion and sound alertsStoragemicroSD with 24/7 recording or cloudAudioTwo-way talk

The GNCC C2 is the fixed-lens twin of the Cinnado: 2K video, motion and sound alerts, two-way talk, six infrared LEDs for the dark, and continuous recording to a microSD card, at the lowest price we found for 2K. It ships with 3M tape so it mounts without a screw. Its 9,000 owners rate it 4.3 stars, and the reviews are the usual budget mix: delighted that it works at the price, irritated by the app’s upsells. It has no person detection and the infrared glows red, so it is a watch-the-dog camera rather than a deterrent. If the choice is between this and the Cinnado at nearly the same money, take the Cinnado for the pan-tilt unless you need the smaller, flatter body.

Pros
  • The lowest price in the catalog for a 2K camera
  • Sticks anywhere with the included tape
  • 24/7 card recording
  • 4.3 stars from about 9,000 owners
Cons
  • Fixed lens
  • No person detection
  • Visible infrared glow

YI PRO 2K Home Security Camera 3pcs, 2.4GHz WiFi with Smart Detection
Video2K 3MP, f/1.4 lensNight vision940nm invisible infraredDetectionPerson, vehicle and animal AI in YI Cloud (plan after 7-day trial)StoragemicroSD for continuous recordingWi-Fi2.4GHzUseIndoor, three cameras

Three 2K cameras for under 50 is the YI PRO’s pitch and it is why it closes the list rather than missing it. Each camera is a fixed 3MP unit with a bright f/1.4 lens and 940nm infrared that does not glow, and the trio covers a flat in one box. The reason it ranks last is the business model: the person, vehicle and animal alerts live in YI Cloud, free for seven days and then paid, and the microSD card records only continuous video without any smart clips. About 39,800 owners have bought it, more than any other camera here, but at 4.0 stars they are the least satisfied group, mostly over the cloud nudges. If you will pay for the cloud or are happy with plain continuous recording, it is three cameras for the money of one; if you want free smart alerts, buy one Wyze or Kasa instead.

Pros
  • Three 2K cameras under the budget line
  • About 39,800 owners
  • Invisible infrared for bedrooms
  • Cloud trial is free out of the box
Cons
  • Smart detection needs a YI Cloud plan after the trial
  • 4.0 stars, the lowest here
  • Card records continuous video only, no event clips

What a budget camera gives up

Under 50 dollars you give up three things, and you can choose which. Smart detection: the Wyze, Tapo C120 and Kasa tell a person from a pet for free, while the Tapo C200, wansview, Cinnado and GNCC alert on any motion, and the YI charges for the difference. Movement: the C200, wansview and Cinnado pan and tilt, the rest are fixed. Weatherproofing: only the Wyze and Tapo C120 can live outside. What you do not have to give up is local storage, which every pick has, or a brand with firmware updates, which the Tapo, Wyze and Kasa cameras provide; the wansview, Cinnado, GNCC and YI are cheaper partly because support is thinner. For a camera that watches the one thing you care about, the fifth pick down this list is as reliable as the first.

Indoor or outdoor on a budget

A budget indoor camera outside is a camera that dies in the first frost or the first thunderstorm; none of the indoor picks here has a weather rating and their adapters are not sealed. If the camera is going outside, it is the Wyze Cam v4 with its outdoor adapter, rated IP65, or the Tapo C120, rated IP66, and the Tapo is the one we would trust in weather. Both need an outlet within cable reach, which at this price is the rule: battery cameras under 50 exist, but their review histories are shorter and their batteries smaller, and the good ones are in our battery-powered security cameras guide a little above the line.

Storage, cards and plans

Every pick records to a microSD card, so the running cost is a card, roughly the price of a coffee for 64GB and enough for a week or two of motion clips on any camera here. The Tapo C200, Wyze and wansview take cards up to 512GB, the Kasa 256GB and the Cinnado 128GB. Cloud plans are optional on all but the YI, whose smart alerts live there, and basic motion alerts are free on every camera. Blink Mini and Ring’s cheapest cameras were not in our catalog when we wrote this, and both lean on a plan for recording, which is why they would not have ranked anyway; our security cameras without a subscription guide is the longer list of cameras that never ask.

Are security cameras under 50 dollars any good?

Yes, as long as they have a microSD slot and a long review history. The Tapo C200 has about 42,000 owners at 4.5 stars, the wansview Q5 about 38,000 at 4.3, and both have been on sale for years. The cheap cameras to avoid are the ones that require a cloud plan to record.

Which cheap security camera has no subscription?

All eight record to a microSD card with no plan. The Wyze Cam v4, Tapo C120 and Kasa KC400 also do person detection free; the Tapo C200, wansview, Cinnado and GNCC send plain motion alerts free; only the YI charges for smart alerts.

Can I use a cheap indoor camera outside under cover?

Not reliably. The Tapo C200, wansview, Kasa KC400, Cinnado, GNCC and YI have no weather rating. Use the Wyze Cam v4 with its outdoor adapter or the IP66 Tapo C120.

Which budget camera is best for a baby or a pet?

The Tapo C200 for its pan-tilt, privacy mode and track record; the aosu 2K indoor camera in our 2K guide if you want the camera to follow the child or pet. The Wyze Cam v4 is the fixed alternative with color night vision.

Do I need 2K on a budget camera?

It helps for reading labels and faces, and seven of these eight are 2K. The Tapo C200 is 1080p and still ranks first because its pan-tilt, privacy mode and 42,000-owner history matter more in a room than the extra pixels.
