Nikon Z 8 | Professional Full-Frame mirrorless Stills/Video Hybrid Camera

I have been a long time shooter of the Nikon brand. I have been using their cameras since the old Nikon film SLR cameras. With the move to mirrorless, the first two generations left a lot to be desired. My Z5, and Z6 offered a nice experience but you really had to know your camera in order to deal with it’s less than perfect auto focusing issues. Trying to nail focus with those cameras had become an art form that had to be perfected. Then they released the $5500, beast of a camera, Z9. This camera gave us a taste of just how good a nikon with reliable auto focus and premium features could be.

Does so many things well, tiny crops still look good, video is WOW, Z series lenses are incredibly sharp- just be sure to keep pushing yourself to learn more about the features - there are a ton buried in the menus. AND the adapter I bought for my Canon lenses works great, so I didn’t need to give those up. For a sports/event photographer it is perfect.

With this camera, I am almost like a real photographer! Arguably the best camera in this class on Earth currently. Nikon is back in a big way. This thing really is amazing. It’s a little more expensive than some, but it’s cheaper than the flagships, and has virtually all of the features and abilities! Keep in mind that you’ll likely be using this for a long time. Don’t sell yourself short!

Just amazing! Bought for my son before he left for Kenya again, an upgrade from his Nikon D5300 (which takes beautiful photos). No real photo quality difference from Z 9. The Z 8 is for photo taking where the Z 9 is more of a video platform on top of photo. You will need at least 4 batteries to work a day of shooting as these newest models are power HUNGRY! Make sure you carry along your portable charger to keep your batteries charging as you chug along your day (solar panel, cigarette lighter charger, car port charger, power bank) otherwise you will run out of power! I've been a Nikon user for decades and come from the D850. The D850 is a great camera but the weight and clunk the mirror makes make it a problem at times. The Z8 solves those issues. It is also very nice that I can use all my D850 batteries. I got the Z 14-24mm f2.8 which is amazing. I will now refi my house and sell my fist born to get other Z lenses.I upgraded the software to version 2.0 which went smoothly. I set about configuring the camera to the way I shoot. I like it, nice upgrade from the D850. A lot of new features which can be read about and reviewed elsewhere. Much faster frames per second (I limit my bird shots to 3 frames per burst though it is capable of doing 20 per second in RAW). Light, nice features. The one thing I miss from the D850 is the ability to lock the focus point with the flip of a lever on the back of the camera body, here you have to go into the menu and it is not done quickly. Small Update: Unfortunately, the battery that was sent with my camera was NOT a Nikon battery and my camera only recognized it briefly. After only a few weeks of using the battery, the camera refused to accept it. This makes me wonder about where the camera actually came from. I can't imagine a company like Nikon cheeping out on a simple battery. I was under the impression that it was from the Nikon Store. One would think you would receive a Nikon battery when you buy a 3400.00 camera. I have been using some spares from my older Nikon, but now I have to buy at least one more battery as this ca
