I grew up and "learned" to cook (still a work in progress?) without a kitchen scale. I don't even remember having an oven timer for many years. I still have not had extensive experience using a kitchen scale. I ordered this scale for two reasons: I have eyesight that isn't great AND I use Alexa a lot. So I'm accustomed to having "voices" around. The buttons are easy to use -- left button to change from grams to ounces, etc. and the right button for on/off and tare weight. The numbers are nice and big. So if you don't need the voice assistant, you can use the scale without it. But, I'm planning ahead... so as my eyesight worsens, I'm not helpless in the kitchen.I use a scale every day to weigh the food for my doggos so they don't gain weight. I was having trouble reading my kitchen scale so I thought this talking one would be helpful. It does what it says it will do but the voice is rather unpleasant. It is loud and mechanical. We have a pill reminder that talks too and it used to have a bossy voice. It broke and we replaced it and it now has a very pleasant one. When this scale speaks I want to turn the volume down but it has no ability to do that. It sounds very robotic. But it measures well. I bought this for my dialysis unit because I have patients with poor eye sight and they are unable measure their drain fluid using a spring scale. This scale is easy to use and a huge help for my patients. The voice reading and accuracy are worth every penny. Really nice and clear easy to work with !

I am blind & found the audio on this scale to not be so clear to distinguish all readings clearly. EX: 5.17 may sound like 5.7. I don't like trying to turn it off...need to hold the button down, it clears, then shuts down. I don't like is that it does not quickly & accurately measure. EX: After a few seconds or so, it updates the measure that is sometimes different from the last measure. Also on it's own, it shuts down much more quickly on it's own automatically.
