Each camera is really two: a 4K lens with a fixed 122-degree view of the whole scene, and a 2K pan-tilt lens underneath that swings to follow a person or a car. When one camera runs out of travel the next picks the subject up, which is the cross-cam tracking owners rave about. The 8-port NVR holds a 2 TB drive and runs the AI locally, so alerts and playback never touch a subscription. The trade-offs are cost and lock-in: four cameras is not many for the money, and the NVR only accepts eufy cameras. If the budget is there and the property is a normal suburban lot, it is the most capable wired kit we have seen.

Plenty of houses already have coax running to the eaves from a system installed a decade ago. PoE, coax DVR or wireless?
PoE (power over Ethernet) is the modern wired standard. One Cat5e or Cat6 cable from the NVR carries power and video up to about 328 ft (100 m), the signal is digital so it does not degrade with distance, and adding a camera is one cable and one port. Coax DVR kits use the BNC cable from older analog systems; resolution tops out lower and every camera needs its own power lead unless you buy combined siamese cable, but they are cheaper and make sense if the coax is already in the walls. Channels, resolution, night vision and drives
Channels are how many cameras the recorder can take; buy at least two more than you need now. Resolution: 1080p shows a person, 5MP or 2K reads a face at the door, 4K reads a plate at 30 to 40 ft. Night vision comes two ways: infrared gives a black-and-white image to 100 ft without visible light; spotlight or white-LED modes give color at shorter range and double as a deterrent, which is why the ANNKE and eufy kits offer both. Drives: eight 1080p cameras recording 24/7 fit a couple of weeks on 1 TB; eight 4K cameras need 4 TB for the same history, and motion-only recording stretches any drive three or four times. Because everything lives on that drive, none of these kits needs a subscription, and the footage never leaves your house unless you open the app.
Do I need an electrician to install PoE?
No. PoE is low voltage, and the cameras plug into the NVR with ordinary Ethernet cable. The hard part is routing cable through attics and soffits; many owners hire a low-voltage installer for a day and do the app setup themselves.
How long can the cable run be?
PoE over Cat5e or Cat6 is rated to 328 ft (100 m) per run. Buy longer pre-terminated runs for a detached garage, and keep the cable away from mains wiring.
Which kits are true 4K?
The eufy S4 Max and the ONWOTE 16-camera kit have 4K (8MP) cameras. The PANOOB and Hiseeu kits ship 5MP cameras on 4K-capable recorders, so you can add 4K cameras later. The ANNKE DVR kit is 1080p.
Can I return a kit if it does not fit my house?
Kits sold or fulfilled by Amazon carry the standard 30-day return window. Keep the packaging until the cameras are mounted and tested, and check the seller line, since third-party sellers can set their own policy.
