Seven hundred dollars is the sweet spot of the laptop market. Below it you give up a Full HD screen, a fast SSD or enough memory to keep twenty browser tabs open; above it you start paying for thin metal bodies and dedicated graphics most people never use. We ranked the Windows laptops in our laptops catalog that were at or under the cap at the time of writing by processor, memory and storage, screen resolution, ports and weight, and by what hundreds or thousands of owners say after months of daily use.
We have not benchmarked these machines ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change weekly, and every button opens the live Amazon page. Chromebooks and gaming laptops were left out on purpose. If your budget is tighter, see our laptops under $500 guide; if you need a machine for coding, see laptops for programming.
How we picked
- A real processor. Every pick has at least a quad-core chip; the two Intel N-series laptops are flagged as light-duty machines.
- 8GB of memory or more. Three picks carry 16GB, which matters more than any other spec for a browser-heavy workday.
- An SSD, not eMMC. Fast flash storage is the difference between a laptop that feels new and one that feels cheap; the 128GB picks are noted.
- A Full HD screen on most picks. One exception made it in because of its review volume and touch panel, and we say so.
- Owner ratings of 4.1 stars or better, with 300 to 1,600 reviews each. No product rated below 4.0 was considered.
The picks
HP 255 G10 Laptop, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Ryzen 3 7330U, 15.6 Full HD

The HP 255 G10 is the laptop most people should buy at this budget because it gets the two specs that matter most right: 16GB of RAM and a Full HD 15.6-inch screen. The Ryzen 3 7330U is a four-core, eight-thread chip that handles Office, forty browser tabs and video calls without the stutter you get from 8GB machines, and the 256GB NVMe SSD boots in seconds. HP sells the 255 as a business laptop, so it is thin, light and plain, with a full port selection but no frills. The compromises are the four-core processor, which is slower than the Ryzen 5 in the Lenovo V15 below, and the modest 256GB drive. Nearly 1,000 owners rate it 4.3 stars, and the common praise is simply that it is fast for the money and does not feel cheap.
- 16GB of RAM where most rivals ship 8GB
- Full HD screen with a big screen-to-body ratio
- Thin and light for a 15.6-inch business design
- Nearly 1,000 owners at 4.3 stars
- Ryzen 3 is a four-core chip, not a Ryzen 5
- 256GB fills quickly with photos and games
- Plain plastic build with no backlit keyboard mentioned
HP 15.6 inch Laptop, HD Touchscreen Display, AMD Ryzen 3 7320U, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, AMD Radeon Graphics, Windows 11 Home, Natural Silver, 15-fc0399nr

This HP 15 is the best-selling laptop on the page and the only touchscreen under the cap, which is why it ranks second despite a screen we would normally reject. The panel is 1366 x 768, so text is noticeably less sharp than on the Full HD picks, and that is the one complaint that recurs in its 1,600 owner reviews. Everything else is good: the Ryzen 3 7320U is a current four-core chip, the 256GB NVMe SSD and 8GB of LPDDR5 keep Windows 11 responsive, and HP quotes long battery life plus a camera with noise reduction for calls. Owners rate it 4.4 stars, higher than any Full HD pick except the Slim 3i, and most bought it as a family or school laptop. If you want touch and do not stare at spreadsheets all day, buy it; if you do, buy the HP 255 above.
- 1,600 owners at 4.4 stars, the most trusted laptop here
- Touchscreen at a budget price
- Fast NVMe SSD and power-efficient LPDDR5 memory
- Long battery life and a quality camera with noise reduction
- 1366 x 768 resolution looks soft on a 15.6-inch panel
- 8GB of memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded
- Glossy touch panel reflects in bright rooms
Lenovo V15 Laptop, 15.6 FHD Display, AMD Ryzen 5 5500U Hexa-core Processor, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, HDMI, RJ45, Numeric Keypad, Wi-Fi, Windows 11 Pro, Black

The Lenovo V15 is the pick for anyone who edits photos, runs a few virtual machines or just wants the laptop to stay fast for five years. Its Ryzen 5 5500U has six cores and twelve threads, roughly half again the multi-core performance of the four-core Ryzen 3 chips in the HP picks, and it is paired with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, the biggest drive on this page. Lenovo fits a Full HD screen, an RJ45 Ethernet jack, HDMI, a numeric keypad and Windows 11 Pro, which small businesses will appreciate for its domain and BitLocker support. The chip is a 2021 design rather than the newest 7000-series, and with 357 reviews it has a smaller track record than the HPs, but those owners rate it 4.4 stars and the recurring theme is that nothing else at the price has this much memory and storage.
- Six cores and twelve threads, the fastest chip here
- 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, double the storage of most picks
- Windows 11 Pro and a wired Ethernet port
- Numeric keypad for spreadsheets
- Ryzen 5 5500U is an older generation than the 7000-series chips
- Fewer reviews than the HP and Lenovo Essential picks
- Sits at the top of the budget
Dell 15.6 Laptop, FHD, Intel Core 3 100U, 8 GB RAM, Windows 11 Home

Dell’s plain 15 is on this list for a reason the spec sheet does not show: it comes with a year of onsite service, meaning Dell sends someone to your home or office if a covered hardware fault cannot be fixed remotely. For a family laptop or a small business that cannot afford downtime, that is worth more than an extra few gigabytes. The hardware itself is sensible: an Intel Core 3 100U, 8GB of RAM, a Full HD 15.6-inch screen with ComfortView blue-light reduction, an enlarged keyboard with a numeric keypad and Express Charge. Dell does not state the SSD capacity in this listing, which is annoying, and 8GB is the minimum we accept. It has 775 reviews at 4.3 stars, with owners describing it as a quiet, reliable everyday machine rather than a fast one.
- Dell will send a technician to your home for a covered fault
- Full HD screen and ComfortView blue-light reduction
- Express Charge and an ergonomic lifted-hinge design
- 775 owners at 4.3 stars
- 8GB of memory, half the HP 255
- Listing does not state the SSD capacity
- Core 3 100U is an entry-level chip
ASUS Vivobook Go 15.6 FHD Slim Laptop, AMD Ryzen 3 7320U Quad Core Processor, 8GB DDR5 RAM, 128GB SSD, Windows 11 Home, Fast Charging, Webcam Shield, Military Grade Durability, Black, E1504FA-AS33

The Vivobook Go 15 is the laptop to carry every day. It is the slimmest and lightest 15.6-inch pick here, it passed military-standard durability testing, and ASUS adds a physical webcam shutter and a hinge that lays flat for sharing the screen across a table. The Ryzen 3 7320U and 8GB of DDR5 give it the same everyday speed as the HP 15 above, and the screen is Full HD with slim bezels. The catch is storage: 128GB fills up after Windows, Office and a few games, so budget for cloud storage or an external drive. The display covers only 45 percent of the NTSC color gamut, fine for documents and video, poor for editing photos, and Wi-Fi is the older Wi-Fi 5 standard. More than 800 owners rate it 4.3 stars, with battery life and the light weight the usual praise.
- Slim, light and military-grade durability tested
- Full HD screen with slim bezels
- Webcam privacy shutter and 180-degree hinge
- 814 owners at 4.3 stars
- 128GB SSD is the smallest drive on this page
- 45 percent NTSC color is dull for photo work
- Wi-Fi 5 rather than Wi-Fi 6
HP Laptop 15 FHD Computer 2026, Intel Processor, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD

This 2026 HP 15 is an unusual combination: an Intel N100 efficiency processor, which is modest, paired with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD, which are generous. The result is a laptop that never runs out of memory but is not quick when you ask it to export a video or run heavy software. For email, browsing, streaming, Office and school work it is perfectly comfortable, and the Full HD anti-glare screen, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 and USB-C charging are all modern touches at the price. It weighs about 3.5 pounds and is 0.7 inches thin. With 302 reviews at 4.2 stars it has the shortest track record here, and a few owners note the N100 struggles with many heavy tabs open. If you can stretch to the HP 255 G10 you get a much faster chip for the same memory.
- 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD at a low price
- Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3
- Full HD anti-glare screen; 3.5 lb, 0.7 inches thin
- USB-C charging support
- Intel N100 is an efficiency chip, slower than any Ryzen here
- Only 302 reviews so far
- DDR4 memory rather than DDR5
Lenovo 15.6 FHD Essential Laptop, Intel Processor, 8GB DDR5, 128GB Storage

Lenovo’s Essential 15 is a school and home laptop with one deal-sweetener: a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, which covers Word, Excel and 1TB of OneDrive storage. The OneDrive space matters because local storage is only 128GB of UFS flash, quicker than the eMMC in cheap Chromebooks but slower than the NVMe drives in the HP and Lenovo V15 picks. The 15.6-inch Full HD screen is anti-glare with TUV low-blue-light certification, the chassis passed MIL-STD-810H testing across 21 tests and weighs 3.42 pounds, and the port selection is excellent for the money: USB-C with charging and DisplayPort, two USB-A, HDMI, an SD reader and Wi-Fi 6. Lenovo lists the processor only as an Intel processor, which we dislike; assume N-series efficiency performance. More than 1,300 owners rate it 4.4 stars.
- Microsoft 365 Personal subscription in the box
- 1,300 owners at 4.4 stars
- MIL-STD-810H tested, 3.42 lb
- USB-C power delivery and an SD card reader
- 128GB UFS storage, not an NVMe SSD
- Lenovo does not name the exact Intel chip
- No numeric keypad listed
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i 15.6 FHD Laptop with Microsoft Office Included, Intel N100, 4GB DDR5, 128GB SSD, 1TB Cloud Storage, Win 11

The IdeaPad Slim 3i costs about half the budget and is rated higher than anything else on the page: 4.6 stars from more than 700 owners. It earns that by being honest about what it is. The Intel N100 and 4GB of RAM handle Word, web, video calls and streaming, and Lenovo bundles Microsoft Office plus 1TB of cloud storage so the 128GB SSD is less of a problem. The 15.6-inch Full HD screen uses a taller 16:10 ratio, there is a fingerprint reader in the power button, Wi-Fi 6, a full-function USB-C port, and Rapid Charge gives two hours of use from a 15-minute top-up. It is slimmer than the previous generation and passed military durability tests. With 4GB of memory it will slow down under twenty tabs, so it is the right pick for a second laptop, a student or a grandparent, not a primary work machine.
- Highest owner rating here at 4.6 stars from 700 owners
- Microsoft Office included and a fingerprint reader
- Full HD 16:10 screen with more vertical space
- Rapid Charge and MIL-STD-810H durability
- Only 4GB of memory, soldered
- Intel N100 is for light tasks only
- 128GB SSD

Ryzen, Core 3 or Intel N100?
The AMD Ryzen 3 7320U and 7330U in the HP and ASUS picks are modern four-core chips that feel quick in everyday use. The Ryzen 5 5500U in the Lenovo V15 is older but has six cores, so it wins any job that uses them all. Intel’s Core 3 100U in the Dell sits around the Ryzen 3 level. The Intel N100 in the HP Laptop 15 and IdeaPad Slim 3i, and the unnamed Intel chip in the Lenovo Essential, are low-power efficiency processors: silent and long-lasting on battery, but a step slower, and the wrong choice if you keep a dozen heavy apps open. Pair an N100 with 16GB, as the HP does, and it becomes a comfortable light-work machine; pair it with 4GB and it is a browsing laptop.
Memory and storage: what to insist on
If you can only check one spec, check memory. Windows 11 with a browser, Teams and Spotify uses 6GB to 8GB on its own, so an 8GB laptop is always close to full and a 4GB laptop is swapping constantly. The HP 255 G10, Lenovo V15 and HP Laptop 15 ship with 16GB. Storage is the second check: 256GB is comfortable, 512GB is generous, and 128GB works only with cloud storage, which is why the Lenovo picks bundle Microsoft 365 or 1TB of cloud space. Look for PCIe NVMe in the listing; UFS and eMMC are slower.
Ports and screens
Every pick has a 15.6-inch screen, and all but the HP touchscreen are Full HD, the resolution you want at this size. Brightness is around 250 nits where stated, fine indoors and dim by a window. Ports to look for: USB-C charging (Lenovo Essential, HP Laptop 15), HDMI (all), an SD reader (Lenovo Essential) and Ethernet (Lenovo V15). For a desk setup, our USB-C docks and hubs guide covers the one-cable approach, and the portable monitors for laptops guide has second screens that run from the same port.
Is 8GB of RAM enough in a laptop under 700 dollars?
It is the minimum. 8GB handles Office, a browser with a dozen tabs and video calls, but it is close to full most of the time. The HP 255 G10, Lenovo V15 and HP Laptop 15 ship with 16GB and will feel faster for longer.
Should I buy a touchscreen laptop at this price?
Only if you will use it. The HP 15 touchscreen is the most-reviewed laptop here, but its 1366 x 768 panel is softer than the Full HD screens on every other pick. Most people get more from a sharper non-touch screen.
Which laptop under 700 is best for a student?
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i and Lenovo Essential bundle Microsoft Office or 365, pass military durability tests and cost less than the budget. A student who runs heavier software should step up to the HP 255 G10 for 16GB of memory.
Can these laptops play games?
Casual and older games, yes; the Ryzen laptops use integrated Radeon graphics that run esports titles at low settings. For modern games you need a dedicated GPU, which starts above this budget in our gaming laptops under 1200 guide.
Is Windows 11 Pro worth looking for?
For a home user, no. For a small business, the Lenovo V15 with Windows 11 Pro adds BitLocker encryption, domain join and remote desktop hosting, which otherwise cost extra to unlock.
