We have a Avermedia C027 capture card in our computer at church and needed to start doing live streaming like everyone else. My old-school receiver has a whole slew of S-video inputs, and they work well, about as good as analog video gets. Would not plug into my s-video on my dvd recorder. Seems the plastic , I'll call it keyway pin, was not quite the same size as my s-video jack. So I just broke it off by bending with a screwdriver. Plugged right in and works fine now. Able to record anything from Firestick HDMI output. Of course s-video or composite video is not the greatest video resolution, but those are my only inputs on my recorder.

At first if I changed the output resolution to anything except 640x480 the image was distorted. Even if I set the resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768 (4:3 ratio) there were black bars on the left and right of the picture, even on my 4:3 ratio monitor, and going into my VCR. I noticed that even if you change your resolution settings, this was only changing what windows 10 calls "Desktop resolution". The "Active signal resolution" would always stay at 1920x1080, (a 16:9 ratio resolution) and so the output was always set-up for 16:9 resolution displays. For some of us that may still have an older tv set that may not have the HDMI source this device does a decent job of resolving this issue to be able to connect your more updated streaming device but unfortunately once you get used to a clearer picture of the new tv's the connection through the S video diminishes the quality of the picture to a more fussy, ghostly appearance.

I'm using the 'S' video connection and find it has a much better screen than when I was using a component connection. I only gave 4 stars for 'easy to install' because I had to play around some to finally get the end result that I wanted. I still don't know why, but at first I was getting a real loud 'buzz' no matter whether I used the S-video or the component connection, or whether it was set on PAL or NTSC. Brought my old projector back to life! It is what is says it is. Make sure to have it on the right settings and it works perfectly. It won't give you better quality picture than what this type of connection always has been. You're delving into ancient tech, so don't expect 4k. Still as good as DVD quality. At first I thought this wasn’t going to work, I was using it to strip HDMI and Audio for an older HD projection TV. It TV only has a single HDMI input, the others are S video or yellow digital video. I swapped the HDMI cable and used the cable that came with this unit and it worked perfectly. Good picture for a non HDMI native connection. The other HDMI cable was longer so that may have been the issue. Used it with a ROKU Premiere as the host device.
