Best Razer Keyboards in 2026: Huntsman, BlackWidow and Ornata Ranked by Owners

Seven Razer keyboards ranked by switch type, layout, build and owner reviews: Huntsman Mini clicky and linear, BlackWidow, BlackWidow V4 X, BlackWidow TE Chroma v2, Ornata Chroma and Ornata V3 TKL.

Our top pickRazer Huntsman Mini 60% Gaming Keyboard:…9.4Our score

Razer sells more gaming keyboards than any other brand in the US, and the range is wide enough to be confusing: optical Huntsman boards, mechanical BlackWidows, mecha-membrane Ornatas, 60 percent, tenkeyless and full-size layouts, and special editions wrapped in licensed artwork. We ranked the Razer keyboards in our keyboards catalog by switch type and feel, layout, keycap material and frame, the extras that matter (macro keys, wrist rest, onboard memory, detachable cable) and what thousands of owners report after months of daily use.

We have not typed on every one of these ourselves; the verdicts rest on the spec sheets and on the owner review history. Prices are not printed because they change daily; every button opens the live Amazon page. If you are not set on Razer, our gaming keyboards guide covers the whole market, and the budget mechanical keyboards under 150 guide is the place for value picks.

How we picked

  • Every switch family represented. Optical (Huntsman), mechanical (BlackWidow) and mecha-membrane (Ornata), so the ranking is about fit, not one switch type.
  • Every layout represented. 60 percent, tenkeyless and full-size boards all made the list so you can choose by desk space.
  • Build details that last. PBT keycaps, aluminum top frames, detachable cables and onboard memory were weighed above RGB effects.
  • Owner ratings of 4.3 stars or better, with most picks past 500 reviews and the top picks past 2,000.
  • Honest about layouts. Boards sold in a non-US key layout were left out, and the special editions are flagged as such.

The picks

Razer Huntsman Mini 60% Gaming Keyboard: Clicky Optical Switches - Aluminum Top Frame - Chroma RGB Lighting - PBT Keycaps - Onboard Memory - Snap Tap - White
Layout60 percent, 61 keysSwitchesRazer Clicky Optical, 1.5 mm actuationKeycapsDoubleshot PBTFrameMatte aluminum top plateConnectionWired, detachable USB-CExtrasChroma per-key RGB, onboard memory, Snap Tap, Hypershift macros

The Huntsman Mini is the Razer keyboard most people should buy, and the one owners rate highest: 4.7 stars from about 4,400 reviews. Its clicky optical switches use a light beam rather than a metal contact, so they register at 1.5 mm, roughly 30 percent sooner than ordinary clicky switches, and never develop the debounce problems that wear out mechanical contacts. The 60 percent layout drops the arrow keys and function row to a Fn layer, which takes a week to learn and then frees a hand-span of desk for your mouse. Razer fitted doubleshot PBT keycaps, a matte aluminum top plate, a detachable USB-C cable and onboard memory for lighting and macros, and the newer Snap Tap feature prioritises the last of two opposing keys for counter-strafing. It is loud, and the white finish needs cleaning; otherwise there is little to fault.

Pros
  • 4.7 stars from about 4,400 owners, the best-rated board here
  • Optical switches actuate at 1.5 mm with a clicky feel
  • PBT keycaps and an aluminum frame at a mid-range price
  • Onboard memory keeps profiles without Synapse running
Cons
  • No arrow keys or function row; they live on a layer
  • Clicky switches are loud for shared rooms
  • White keycaps show grime sooner than black

Razer BlackWidow Mechanical Gaming Keyboard: Green Mechanical Switches, Tactile & Clicky, Chroma RGB Lighting, Anti-Ghosting, Programmable Macro Functionality
LayoutFull-size with number padSwitchesRazer Green mechanical, tactile and clicky, 50 gDurabilityRated 80 million keystrokes, 2-year warrantyLightingChroma per-key RGB, 16.8 million colorsConnectionWired USB with built-in cable routingExtrasN-key rollover, anti-ghosting, Hypershift macros, 1000 Hz polling

The BlackWidow is the keyboard that made Razer a keyboard company, and this generation keeps the formula: a full-size layout with number pad, Razer Green mechanical switches that click and bump at 50 grams, and per-key Chroma lighting that syncs with hundreds of games. The switches are rated for 80 million presses, N-key rollover and anti-ghosting mean a mashed combo always registers, and Hypershift doubles every key with a secondary function. Razer built cable channels into the top and both sides of the case so the cord can exit wherever your PC sits. What you do not get is a wrist rest, a dedicated media row or PBT keycaps, and the Greens are loud enough that a partner in the next room will know when you are playing. About 2,000 owners rate it 4.6 stars, and most of the complaints are about noise, not reliability.

Pros
  • The classic Razer board: 4.6 stars from about 2,000 owners
  • Green switches give a crisp tactile click at 50 g
  • Cable routing channels on three sides tidy the desk
  • Full number pad for spreadsheets and MMO macros
Cons
  • Clicky Green switches are the loudest option here
  • ABS keycaps rather than PBT at this price
  • No wrist rest or dedicated media keys

Razer Ornata Chroma Gaming Keyboard: Hybrid Mechanical Key Switches - Customizable Chroma RGB Lighting - Individually Backlit Keys - Detachable Plush Wrist Rest - Programmable Macro Functionality
LayoutFull-size with number padSwitchesRazer Mecha-Membrane, tactile click on a rubber domeKeycapsABS, mid-heightLightingChroma per-key RGBWrist restDetachable, magnetic, leatheretteDurabilityRated 80 million keystrokes, 2-year warranty

The original Ornata Chroma remains the most-reviewed Razer keyboard on Amazon, with roughly 11,000 owners averaging 4.7 stars, and the reason is its hybrid switch. A rubber dome gives the soft landing of a membrane board while a clicky mechanism on top adds a crisp tactile point, so it feels more decisive than an office keyboard without the clatter of Green switches. It is a full-size layout with a number pad, per-key Chroma lighting and a detachable plush wrist rest that attaches magnetically. The limits are the ones you would expect: mid-height ABS keycaps that shine over time, no optical or true mechanical option, and because this is an older model its availability comes and goes. If you want the Ornata feel in a newer, smaller board, the Ornata V3 TKL below is the current version.

Pros
  • About 11,000 owner reviews at 4.7 stars, the most trusted board here
  • Mecha-membrane feel is softer and quieter than Greens
  • Plush magnetic wrist rest in the box
  • Full-size layout with per-key Chroma lighting
Cons
  • Not a true mechanical switch; purists will notice
  • Older model, so stock and pricing on Amazon fluctuate
  • ABS keycaps develop shine with heavy use

Razer BlackWidow V4 X Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Minecraft Edition

4.5 · 491 ratings
9.0Our score
Razer BlackWidow V4 X Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Minecraft Edition
LayoutFull-size with 6 dedicated macro keysSwitchesRazer Green mechanical clicky, 1.9 mm actuation, 50 gMedia controlsMulti-function roller plus secondary media keysLightingChroma per-key RGB with brighter switch housingConnectionWired USBEditionOfficially licensed Minecraft artwork

The BlackWidow V4 X is the current full-size BlackWidow, and this licensed Minecraft edition carries the same hardware under the blocky artwork: Razer Green clicky switches at a 1.9 mm actuation point, six dedicated macro keys down the left edge, a multi-function roller for volume and brightness, and a redesigned switch housing that spreads the Chroma lighting more evenly. For MMO players who want skill rotations on physical keys without a Naga mouse, the macro column is the draw, and the roller is a genuine convenience when a game is too loud. The artwork is the deciding factor: owners who bought it for a Minecraft fan love it, and it is otherwise a slightly louder, more fully featured version of the BlackWidow above. About 490 owners rate it 4.5 stars.

Pros
  • Six dedicated macro keys on the left for MMO and MOBA rotations
  • Roller control for volume and brightness
  • 4.5 stars from about 490 owners
  • Same Green switches as the BlackWidow with improved lighting
Cons
  • Minecraft keycap artwork is not for every desk
  • Clicky switches only on this edition
  • Fewer reviews than the standard BlackWidow

Razer Huntsman Mini (Red Switch) - Compact 60% Gaming Keyboard (Linear Optical Switches, Doubleshot PBT Keycaps, Removable USB-C Cable) QWERTY US Layout, Mercury White
Layout60 percent, US QWERTYSwitchesRazer Linear Optical (Red)KeycapsDoubleshot PBT with side-printed secondary legendsMemoryUp to 5 onboard profilesConnectionWired, detachable USB-CFinishMercury White

This is the same Huntsman Mini in its linear form: Razer Red optical switches that travel smoothly with no bump or click, which makes it the pick for anyone who shares a room or streams with an open microphone. The doubleshot PBT keycaps have the secondary layer functions printed on their front edges, so the arrow and function layers are easier to learn than on a blank 60 percent board. Five lighting and macro profiles store on the keyboard itself, and the USB-C cable detaches for travel. It is 40 percent smaller than a full-size board, which is the whole point. About 920 owners rate it 4.6 stars; the Mercury White finish is the most common grumble because it picks up grime. If you want a quiet, compact Razer board, this is it.

Pros
  • Linear optical switches are smooth and much quieter than the clicky model
  • Five profiles stored on the board
  • PBT keycaps with the layer functions printed on the sides
  • 4.6 stars from about 920 owners
Cons
  • Mercury White shows dirt
  • Same Fn-layer learning curve as any 60 percent board
  • No wrist rest and no aluminum plate mentioned on this listing

Razer BlackWidow TE Chroma v2 TKL Tenkeyless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard: Yellow Key Switches, Linear & Silent, Chroma RGB Lighting, Magnetic Wrist Rest, Programmable Macros, Classic Black
LayoutTenkeyless (no number pad)SwitchesRazer Yellow mechanical, linear and silent, 45 gLightingChroma per-key RGBWrist restMagnetic leatheretteConnectionWired, detachable USB cableExtrasHypershift macros, tournament-ready portable form

The BlackWidow Tournament Edition Chroma v2 is the tenkeyless BlackWidow, and this version comes with Razer Yellow switches: linear, silent and 45 grams, with an actuation distance Razer says is up to 20 percent shorter than legacy speed switches. Dropping the number pad gives you most of the mouse room of a 60 percent board while keeping real arrow keys and a function row, which is why many players consider TKL the sweet spot. A detachable cable and a magnetic leatherette wrist rest are in the box, Hypershift remaps any key, and the per-key Chroma lighting matches the rest of the family. It is an older board, so Amazon pricing swings and the keycaps are ABS, but about 1,150 owners rate it 4.5 stars and the Yellows are the quietest mechanical switch Razer makes.

Pros
  • Yellow switches are linear, light at 45 g and quiet
  • Tenkeyless layout keeps the arrows but frees mouse room
  • Detachable cable and magnetic wrist rest included
  • 4.5 stars from about 1,150 owners
Cons
  • Older generation, so Amazon pricing is uneven
  • No dedicated media keys
  • ABS keycaps

Razer Ornata V3 TKL Gaming Keyboard, Low-Profile Keys, Cinnamoroll Edition
LayoutTenkeyless, low profileSwitchesRazer Mecha-Membrane, clicky feel on a membrane baseKeycapsUV-coated, slim profileMedia keysDedicated backlit media keysWrist restMagnetic soft-touchEditionOfficially licensed Cinnamoroll pastel design

The Ornata V3 TKL is the cheapest way into a Razer keyboard, and this Cinnamoroll edition adds a pastel blue and white theme to the standard board. The keys are low profile with shorter switches and slimmer caps, so your hands sit flatter and tire less over a long session, and the mecha-membrane mechanism gives a snappy feel without mechanical noise. UV-coated keycaps resist fading, the media keys are dedicated and backlit, and a soft-touch wrist rest snaps on magnetically. Being tenkeyless it fits a small desk. The compromises are a membrane base that typists who love real switches will not accept, and an aesthetic that is either the whole reason to buy or a non-starter. About 590 owners rate it 4.6 stars, and the same board is sold in a Hello Kitty edition with an identical spec.

Pros
  • Low-profile keys and a wrist rest make it comfortable for work and play
  • Mecha-membrane keys are quiet compared with any mechanical pick here
  • Dedicated media keys and RGB at a budget price
  • 4.6 stars from about 590 owners
Cons
  • Pastel licensed artwork will not suit every setup
  • Zone lighting rather than true per-key control on budget Ornatas
  • Membrane base will not satisfy mechanical fans

Optical, mechanical or mecha-membrane?

Razer uses three switch technologies and the names tell you which is which. Huntsman boards have optical switches: a light beam registers the keypress, so actuation is short (1.5 mm on the clicky), there is no debounce delay and nothing to wear out at the contact. BlackWidow boards use mechanical switches: Green is clicky and tactile at 50 grams, Yellow is linear and silent at 45 grams, and both are rated for 80 million presses. Ornata boards use mecha-membrane, a rubber dome with a clicky top that feels softer and quieter than either and costs less. If you type a lot, optical or mechanical; if you want quiet and cheap, Ornata.

60 percent, tenkeyless or full-size?

The Huntsman Mini drops the number pad, function row and arrow keys to a layer and is about 40 percent smaller than a full board, which is ideal for low-sensitivity mouse players and small desks. Tenkeyless (BlackWidow TE, Ornata V3 TKL) keeps the arrows and function row and only removes the number pad, a good compromise for people who also work on the board. Full-size (BlackWidow, BlackWidow V4 X, Ornata Chroma) keeps everything and, on the V4 X, adds six macro keys. If you enter numbers all day or play MMOs with keyboard macros, stay full-size. Our mechanical keyboards for programmers guide covers the same trade-off for coding.

Razer Synapse, onboard memory and special editions

Every Razer keyboard here is configured through Synapse, Razer’s software, which handles lighting, macros and Hypershift secondary functions. The Huntsman Minis store profiles on the board so your settings survive a new PC or a work laptop without Synapse installed; the Ornata and older BlackWidows rely more on the software being present. Special editions (Minecraft, Cinnamoroll, Hello Kitty) are the standard hardware with licensed keycaps and colors, so pick them on looks. For the matching mouse, see our Razer gaming mice guide.

Which Razer keyboard is best for gaming?

The Huntsman Mini with clicky optical switches. Its 1.5 mm light-based actuation is the fastest switch Razer sells, and owners rate it 4.7 stars. If you need a number pad, the full-size BlackWidow with Green switches is the classic choice.

Are Razer optical switches better than mechanical?

They actuate sooner and have no metal contact to wear or bounce, so they are faster and generally longer lasting. Mechanical Green and Yellow switches feel slightly heavier and more traditional. Both are rated for tens of millions of presses.

Is the Razer Ornata a mechanical keyboard?

No. Ornata boards use a mecha-membrane switch: a rubber dome with a clicky mechanism on top. It is quieter and softer than a mechanical switch and costs less, but it is not what keyboard enthusiasts mean by mechanical.

Do Razer keyboards work without Synapse?

Yes, as a normal keyboard. Lighting effects, macros and Hypershift need Synapse to set up, but the Huntsman Mini stores up to five profiles onboard so the settings keep working on a PC without the software.

Which Razer keyboard is quietest?

The Huntsman Mini with linear optical (Red) switches and the BlackWidow TE Chroma v2 with Yellow switches are the quiet options among the mechanical and optical boards. The Ornata V3 TKL is quieter still because of its membrane base.
