As an avid home-brewer, for years I've muddled through with kitchen scales that had accuracies of +/- 5 grams. When the smallest quantity I needed to weight was a half-ounce of hops, this was acceptable. But as I've gotten more involved in the process and started messing with the chemistry of my brew water, I really need something that could resolve to at least a gram, or half-a gram.This little scale does that. I bought this scale for its precision, reading to .01 grams, and I am amazed by how well it performs. Display precision is worthless if repeated measurements are not consistent. I have come to expect the last digit in affordable measuring instruments to vary by around 20%. My 5 kg scale for example, which reads to only 1 gram, varies by as much as +/-2 grams with each reading. I didn't calibrate so I don't know its accuracy, but happy to have a 1 HUNDRETHS of a gram versus just to the nearest TENTH of a gram in accuracy! When I measure yeast for bread and coffee, I like to be more accurate and some scales are less accurate overall when they have too small of an amount. What I mean is that if you were measuring a small amount of yeast with nothing else on the scale, it could be less accurate than if you added weight first (like a glass) and THEN measured the small desired amount in excess of that. I ordered this scale because I need a to measure in small gram weights. I liked the size of the scale and that it measures in 10ths of a gram. It is not shipped with batteries, so I had a freshly charged set of rechargeable AAA batteries on hand when it arrived earlier today. I got this scale to replace one like it that went kaput (tare button barely worked). This is the 3rd scale of this type I've purchased, but the first of this brand. Two things about the other 2 scales were kind of annoying:1. Any weight within 0.03 of a gram was rounded up or down on the display.
