Microsoft D58-00002 Intellimouse Optical

I bought this mouse a couple weeks ago. I have been happy with it ever since. I plugged it right into my USB port and Windows 98 found the software and I was off. All I had to do was install the software to customize the side buttons, the installation took no more than 3 minutes. I use one button to double-click and one button to view the desktop. But that isn't the main reason I bought the mouse. I have a laptop and I like to use it in my bed. The mouse-stick thing and the fingerpad aren't as great as a regular mouse and I don't have anything for the ball of the regular mouse to roll on so I'

I've used the same Microsoft Intellimouse Optical 1.0A USB and PS/2 Compatible 5 button ambidextrous mouse for over 20 years. It fits my hand perfectly and I use every button, except the wheel button. Recently, the top left button went down and didn't come back up. I'd love to repair it, but dought that's practical. I ordered this mouse hoping it's as good as mine has been. It looks identical, but the button springs are much weaker and the scroll wheel is lower. The scroll wheel also has much more resistance to turning, which occasionally leads to inadvertently clicking it's button. It seems M

Optical mouse are great because you don't need a mouse pad, they work on any surface and they seem to be more "accurate". They also suffer less from dirt or dust, which is a major problem with the "regular" mouse. This particular mouse fits well in my hand and works great, even though I have dropped it regularly (by accident) because my work space is less than ideal.However, I have found a drawback. This product is good however I have had some problems with it.1) the wheel is very loose (physically) which makes it hard to use for detailed work as it tends to roll more than you want it to.2) depending on the surface it drags actually more than my regular intellimouse.3) If you pick it up slightly you lose your place.4) It just doesn't "feel" as sensitive as my regular intellimouse.
