Microsoft Intellimouse Optical Mouse

I love this mouse. I've gone through two of this type of mouse but each one lasted around 5+ years of hard use and abuse. It has taken a beating as it has fallen off of the desk onto the tile floor dozens of times, tossed in laptop bags, grabbed and thrown by small children, etc., and STILL works great.The buttons are easy to customize in general and for specific programs. It works on many different surfaces. Comfortable for lefties like me as well as right handed people. One of the recent tumbles the mouse took has partially broke one of the side buttons making that button mostly useless now

The main reason I ordered this mouse is because of its 2 extra programmable buttons. These buttons really come in handy. They are located on the left and right hand sides of the mouse. There is an easy to use program that is on the CD that comes with the mouse, and it lets you control what functions these extra keys (Or what any of the mouse keys) do.I currently have chosen to have these keys double as back and forward buttons in my web browser. This makes surfing much easier, as I don't have to move the mouse up to the top of the screen each time I want to go back or forward in the browser.In

Okay, so the left side button on my old intellimouse (about 8 years give or take) finally started messing up. The mouse looks new and al the switches feel good. It looks and feels exactly like what it claims to be. However, it does not work at all. Plugged into a USB port, the red light on the back of the mouse blinks on and off and the red LED sensor on the bottom never turns on. I have tried it in multiple USB ports on multiple computers. It is not detected by the system at all. I love this mouse and have them on most of my computers. No driver is ever needed as it works perfectly with Ubuntu Linux. I LOVED this mouse at first. It's a big improvement over my old mouse that had a ball. Recently, the side buttons started to lose their programming. I didn't even change it; I kept the default settings. Sometimes I find myself opening my mouse software every few minutes to click the OK button, just to make the side buttons work.
