This is the second Opal Nugget machine I have bought. My first one, an Opal 2, worked beautifully for years without a single issue. We used the hell out of it. No filters, tap water, ran 24 hours a day. Cleaned regularly. Never had an issue, until 3 weeks ago. I tell you how we mis-treated this machine because we did the bare minimum and got perfect results every day for YEARS. When we finally had an issue it was an high pitched squeal. I would unplug overnight and plug it back in and no issues for a few days, then it happened again. I repeated what I did the first time and if worked beautiful

I have owned the original GE Opal 1.0 purchased from Amazon 5 plus years ago It was a great ice maker! When it started producing less ice and not keeping up with our needs I was insistent on replacing with another GE product. This loyalty has proven to be a huge mistake to go down a rabbit hole with the last two purchases.I have now purchased two GE opal 2.0 in less than 60 days. Both have had the same issue after 25-30 days the ice maker starts screaming for mercy. Listen to the video of the first of the last two. Have had our ice maker for a week now without any issues. I've seen alot of reviews and people post about the unit not lasting long out of the box. We did leave ours sit upright for 24 hours before plugging in since there's a compressor in there. None of the instructions state you have to do this but I think anyone with knowledge of compressors would recommend it. I'm not sure that's the issues with the bad reviews or if it's truly hit or miss if you get a unit that runs longer then a week. Will update if anything changes. Outstanding perfect ice!! Can’t say enough great things about this icemaker. The ice is perfect if you’d like chewing ice. When I fill up my stainless Tumblr, the ice stays un melted for an entire 13 hour shift, even after I get home I still have plenty of ice. The machine is quiet, makes ample ice for a family of four. Easy operation & nothing confusing about hook up or getting started.

If it works, it is the best ice I have had. However, in the 6 weeks I have had it, I have ran into multiple issues. It squeals loudly if I dont clean it about every half tank of side tank. Looked it up, and it appears to be that the motor or Steel Ice Engine is frozen. Says it is normal for it to do it once in a while for about 3 minutes, and then go into a defrost mode. It rarely only lasts a few minutes followed by a defrost. Have had it do that for 20 minutes straight before. annoying that I have to use the hot water cleaning method daily to avoid this, but whatever, the ice is great. Howev

Don’t get me wrong I love this ice machine, it’s actually helping me drink more water. But it’s such a pain in the ass. I’ve barely had it a month and I’ve had to clean it 6 or 7 times already. I only put filtered water in it, I have a three stage waterdrop filtration system. And I use the Opal descale filter. It seems like every three days it tells me it needs to be cleaned. If I ignore it, on day 5 it starts making horrible screeching noises.I did get it on prime day so the price was really good, but I’m not sure I would have bought it if I knew it needed to be cleaned every 3 days. I have wanted one of these forever and couldn’t beat the price so I decided to go for it. I have not had any issues others have mentioned. I plugged it in and it runs like a champ. My household can go through the ice and it is able to keep up and stay ahead of us. I love the ice and have quit running to my local drive-in for my daily fix. The ice does melt, but slowly and as I said it easily keeps us in ice. I have no complaints and no regrets.

This makes ice fairly quickly and ice is truely nugget (chewy) ice. I am treating myself to this for an upcoming party I am hosting and using in addition to a bullet ice maker. So, my water is very bad. We don't drink it until it goes through 3 filter steps including a Pro One gravity filter, so very clean. This is the water I am using in the ice maker. Things I have learned this week. The auxillary tank will only be used for parties. Do not add more water than you can use before turning off. (The bullet ice maker melts back in to the reservoir and can't over flow) This pulls from the aux. tan
